Burke Invited To The US Select Team

"Forced" is much too strong a word. My main issue with Burke was his poor decision making, namely that he often would decide to jack up a bad shot instead of working to get his teammates (or himself) a better one. Hopefully that'll be much better this year, with his experience and a different offense. But I think it might be only 50-50. We'll see.

Maybe because his teammates are not very good. I saw him pass lenty in college to his other pro teammates...Justa thought ya know

Yes, although many of those PG's have far greater physical skills to make up for their lack of shooting compared to Burke.

Hopeful comparisons (at least in terms of progression), could be Walker, Teague, Hill, Calderon and maybe Lowry…but we'll see. Every case is different.

We'll see. I'm too lazy to look it up, but it would be interesting to see how many of the PG's you listed sucked again as sophomores in their summer league games. I saw very little indication Burke has improved his shooting.

It seems (Burke) feels he is too good for the Jazz or something. I really have a feeling Burke thinks he is better than he thinks he is moreso than most players. The only thing promising about Burke is that he has a very very nice Assist/TO ratio (Top 10 in the entire NBA). Everything else sucks, his athleticism sucks, his height sucks, his defense sucks, his shooting sucks. His rookie year stats and height are very similar to Johnny Flynn. Johnny didn't last 5 years in the NBA.

His defense improved a lot in SL so we'll see how it holds up in the regular season but generally speaking, as much as I am rooting for the kid, I believe the rest of your statements to ring true.

Corbin's offense didn't run a whole lot action outside pick and roll. It was a pretty basic move-and-fill action on the wings. There weren't many backdoor cuts. The pnr tended to hedge Trey baseline, with no options other than re-screening. Corbin rarely had them experiment with that. Corbin never ran staggered high screens, and with a big hanging around the paint it made it difficult for Trey to attack mano a mano.

That's what I meant by forcing Trey into taking bad shots. He's not a drive and seek point guard like Nash or Dragic, and he's not big, quick, or athletic enough to drive into contact. The only option I saw for making better decisions was backing out and resetting the offense. That kind of stagnation would have been brutal to watch.

These really need to be adjusted for free throw attempts. Trey's bad percentages wouldn't worry anyone if he could get to the line 5.7/game like John Wall did.

You mention FT attempts which are more important than what I'm about to say but also compare FT%. Burke shoots FT's very well, so that should give hope that if left open he can be a real threat to knock down those shots.
