Burke Invited To The US Select Team

Seriously what is with all of the negativity on this forum? I realize that Burke has been a bit of a disappoint so far, but it seems like more people are rooting for his failure so they can confirm their feelings about him as a player. I'm not saying everyone should pretend to love him, but do you need to **** on every Jazz player you don't like in every thread? It's getting really old.

When a player plays good people love and when a player play bad people hate him. I used to be an Orlando Magic fan and the whole forum worshiped Dwight Howard saying stuff like he is even better than Shaq, Penny etc (before you know...). I am pretty sure if you go to the trailblazers forum they would love Damian Lillard. You think we should love a player unconditionally? If Trey Burke becomes a top 5 PG in the league everyone will go fanboy on him and say he is best PG in the entire league even if he isn't. Utah Jazz hasn't had that one player who overachieved (excluding second round picks) for a long time. If Trey Burke becomes Damian Lillard or Gordon Hayward becomes Paul George Jazz fanz will be more positive.

It is not so bad being a pessimist as you are rarely disappointed. On a disappointing team it shouldn't be surprising to see people gravitate towards pessimism.

I hope his assists go up, but I hang this hope on having outside shooters hitting more open 3's, and possibly post players hitting more close shots as defenders are forced to not leave the 3pt line to double/pack the paint. That would be our offensive utopia going as planned anyways.

I don't think they'll go up because the usage opportunity won't be there, not because he won't improve. We have five players with a legitimate shot at running this offense through (Burke, Burks, Hayward, Hood, Dante).

Every dumb *** thinks they need to make one or more dumb *** clones to prove to the world how dumb they are.

With Hayward running the O less and spot shouting more...

key to the offense: Hayward's spot shouting.

I agree it is easier for some to look at the negative, but I've been on this board for four years and people will find something to be unhappy about even when the team is doing better. I think part of the problem is that long time Jazz fans were incredibly spoiled by having Stockton and Malone. That was a perfect storm for the Jazz that we'll unlikely ever see again. I think people should try to temper their expectations a bit.

I suppose you have a point there, and as I think about the extra passes to get an open shot it doesn't usually lead to an assist for the PG.

Parker averages 6apg yet the Spurs generally are tops or close to tops in Apg as a team.

We may get more open shots and hit more open shots but the assists will be spread out among the players and not rest solely on the PG if things are run right.

Snyder's empty post/double high screen offense will play up to Trey's strengths.

Corbin's offense allowed defenses to pack the paint and forced Trey to play to his weaknesses (long, contested 2s). This will not happen under Snyder and I expect his % to move up significantly. His assists will be about the same, but I expect they'll be of much higher quality.

I don't understand why more people underestimate just how bad Corbin's offense was. If you take any player other than maybe a small handful and you run a system that forces them to rely on low percentage ball and/or their weaknesses that player will be bad. Imagine if Spoelstra made Wade a spot up 3pt shooter how affective Wade would be.

Snyder's offense won't lend itself well to Kanter, and Favors to a lesser extent. Both suck away from the basket but that's where they're going to see a whole lot of time.

Corbin could have brought them both out too, but he was DEVELOPING them inside. We are past that stage in this team's progression.

They'll be forced to move more on offense and set more screens. No more sitting in the post waiting for the ball.

I tried to rep you but apparently you're the only poster I rep here. Go figure. I'll go rep some of boobs posts and get back to you.

Crayons: LOL!

OK, I won't say Burke's shooting sucks or is even very low.

But I do have a few questions:
1. How many teams had a starting guard shoot worse than 38%/33%?
2. How many playoff teams had a starting guard shoot that poorly?

I think a much better question would be, how many playoff teams had a starting guard who shot 38%/33% his rookie season?

I don't know the answer to it, but would be willing to rep if someone can look it up.

"Forced" is much too strong a word. My main issue with Burke was his poor decision making, namely that he often would decide to jack up a bad shot instead of working to get his teammates (or himself) a better one. Hopefully that'll be much better this year, with his experience and a different offense. But I think it might be only 50-50. We'll see.
