Burying the dumb **** about Clayton Jr not being "athletic"

I mean, he was a D1 football recruit. That right there tells you he's probably an athlete given football is the most athletic american sport.

Of the 73 players this year with NBA combine numbers available on NBA.com here is how Clayton ranks:

* Ranked #4 on Lane Agility
* Ranked #8 on Shuttle Run
* Ranked #17 on Three Quarter Sprint
* Ranked #20 on Max Vertical Leap
That just means he is a small guard. Do you really expect centers and power forwards to be more agile, fast and jump higher off the ground than small PGs?

My comment was that his limited size and athleticism limit his ability to get where he wants to go on the floor without using screens. Watch him try to playmake against NBA defenders. Sure, he's a good athlete overall, but he's not ideally your lead on-ball guard. He's not beating people off the dribble much on his own, and he's not big enough to make plays over the top.

I mean, the lane agility, shuttle run, and sprints suggest he is fast enough. If he needs a screen, then maybe it's his handle? That can obviously be improved in a way that speed and agility cannot.

I'm just pushing back on what I perceive to be any bromide against players that don't fit some idealized mold. You seem to be a guy who wants everybody to be plus-sized for their position and will lob lazy critiques if the player doesn't meet your 22nd century specifications.

Clayton tests as a more than fine athlete, but this is really where functional athleticism comes to play for me. He never seems like he’s a bad athlete on the court, and ultimately, that’s all that matters.

And he can shoot the **** out of the ball
That's the key. That is where my hope for him lies. His shot reminds me of Steph as much as anyone's.
If he shot the ball like Collier then I would be higher on Collier.
WCJ is right there with Tre and kon as the best shooters in the draft. This will surprise some people cause I'm a huge Tre fan but due to the quick release of WCJ I think he is the better shooter.

Even if he did I’m not sure you’re right.

Walt is the better defender. The better floor general. He runs the offense better. Collier probably has better vision, and is a better passer, but I’m not sold he’s a smart player. With that being said, Collier is younger and has room/time to grow. Walt should be the more mature player, and he clearly is.
