Buying a new laundry detergent

Is it too late to get some serious feedback on detergent. What kind do you or your significant other use? and how do you like it?

Is this the Amway thread?

ERA concentrate was better than Amway in 1975. My wife does the tide thing and the washer repairman orders her not to use too much, and not to wash old rubber-backed throw rugs in "his" machine.

If you want some exotic scent just buy some orange oil or whatever. If my pants came out smelling like Mango I'd wash them again thinking they were still dirty.

Old fashioned lye soap was beef fat treated with lye to neutralize the fatty acid, making it "sodium stearate" instead of stearic acid. Know what dead cows smell like? That's why ritzy folks wanted some perfume in it.

Todays detergents are made from crude oil. . . . .

So here's how manufacturers think. If their soap is naturally stinky they load it with perfumes and advertise. Top quality manufacterers buy more refined/pure ingredients and so don't need that much perfume.
