BYU to the Big 12 discussion???

Speaking of Boise St. Jeez! Look @ them! They went from the WAC to the Big East! A few years ago, no one knew about or cared about that school. today, they're rarely NOT discussed when it comes to college FB...

They were division 2 not so long ago also. That football program has come a long way.

This will all be irrelevant in a few scant years when the BCS reconfigures itself to re-exclude all the uppity mid majors that have weaseled their way into the big boys' club.

From a recruiting angle, how in the hell can you spin this prima donna self-harm to anyone, but especially in-state kids? I don't know the finances, but from a football angle it looks like BYU is just killing themselves. If Utah wasn't in the PAC 12 already it might not matter, but now...?

Even if AQ status goes away, I don't think independence is a good thing for BYU long term. Even if the schedule improves, it's going to be very difficult to shore up the November scheduling problems. It's probably always going to be a top heavy schedule for BYU which doesn't work IMO. Getting in a conference with Boise State and those Texas schools insulates BYU from those scheduling problems and opens up even more recruiting areas.

It will ultimately be interesting to see what happens with the landscape of college football in the coming weeks and months. I still think it is foolish that BYU did not bend over backwards(to an extent) to try to get into the Big 12.

This.

Even if BYU somehow salvages a Big East deal, I think the biggest mistake was made when BYU didn't bend over backwards to get into the Big 12. The TV money from any future Big 12 contract would have put more $$$ in BYU's pockets than the 7 game home deal with ESPN does. The exposure BYU would reap in the Big 12 would far exceed any exposure they are currently getting with 8pm game times against Idaho or the rebroadcasts on BYUtv.

The more the drama in the media goes on, and on, the more I don't care.
Troutbum may have been on to something right from the start.

I think conference movement for the moment at least has slowed to a crawl. Give it another year and we will be hearing more rumors.

And where does BYU fit in then? The Big 12 will have long since moved on. The Big 10, PAC 12, ACC, and SEC will probably never be viable options for BYU, and if there still is a Big East it's quite possible that they grabbed what they could (San Diego State, etc) in order to stay alive and won't be interested in getting jerked around by BYU a second time.

Look, if you're a BYU fan and you're ok with what just went down over the last few months, who's to tell you that you're wrong? It's your team, you can decide to be happy or angry about all of this, but make no mistake: It's looking like Independence is no longer a temporary move. Whether it makes me a hater or not, I still think there's quite a few problems that need to be addressed if BYU plans on being a permanent independent, and I don't think they can fix all of those problems.

I think long term independence will be an unmitigated disaster for BYU. The apologists will try to paint a different picture but if you look at all of the factors facing BYU as they try to go it alone on a permanent basis, only a fool would dismiss all of the pitfalls that they are going to face. The deck is certainly stacked against them.
