C.J. McCollum, Portland Trail Blazers: Sounds like a wildly crazy notion. He’s putting up 22 points per game and has at least injected himself into the conversation for a spot on the Western Conference All-Star team. But as Zach Lowe of ESPN.com points out, the Trail Blazers are stuck in the ugly rut of a .500 team that is simply spinning its wheels in an unforgiving West playoff race and might have to think bolder. Al-Farouq Aminu and Mo Harkless are delivering big time on very friendly contracts. Evan Turner and Allen Crabbe not so much on overpaid deals. You’re not moving Damian Lillard. So, that leaves the 25-year-old McCollum as the only potential trade bait who could get Portland the game-and season-changing player it needs.

Adding McCollum to our guardline would make us scary-good. Not sure what it would take. I thought there'd be some interest in talking about this on JFC.

I think they can do that without giving up McCollum though. Unless you're getting a legit star big man in return.

They really can't though. They have no cap-space and limited trade assets. Do you really need a 22 ppg SG when your PG is Lillard? They score just as good as anyone in the NBA but they are putrid on defense.

OK let's take this step by step. Center. Do you think Plumlee is insufficient?

Any 3 man combo of Hill, McCollum, Hood and Hayward is insane...

At defense? Yes, he is a terrible defensive player. Or at least he can't be a center on a good defensive team.

Solid defensive (but not GREAT) centres aren't too hard to find nowadays though. The Bucks have Henson, Plumlee and Monroe, pretty sure they'd be happy to part with 1 without giving up McCollum.

None of those players have anchored a solid defense in their lives.

This would surely mean that Diaw would get the C minutes when Gobert sits. They would want Favs and we can't afford to let him go for a sg.

I did say solid but not great.

Yeah and I just said none of those players have been solid defensively. None of them are going to change defensive culture of the Blazers. They would need a Favors level defender to come in.

I think Plumlee is sufficient.

I think they need a PF scoring threat though. Their offense is too predictable, predicated around Lillard and McCollum. They need a 3rd dimension scoring threat down low.
