What's new

calling it now: Kanter will be traded, and Burke will be in the deal

I think favors and gobert can play together if a few things happen. Both need to pass very we, like almost as good as Marc gasol or joakim Noah. Both need to finish well inside and develop a jump hook. And favors needs to have a decent mid range game. That's a lot to ask, but not outside the realm of possibility.

Before all of those happen, Gobert needs to figure out how to hold on to the ball.

They made him play C since last year, I wonder if he isn't more suited to the PF position now that Gobert seems to be knocking on the door for the starting C plus Favors seems to have improved offensively & shooting it from decent range.

Gobert
Favors
Hayward
Burks
Exum

Nice lineup for the next 3-4 years.

I think Gobert and Favors need a Milsap type guy playing next to them.

Exum
Burks
Hayward
Millsap type
Gobert or Favors

Favors is definitely a starter in the NBA. For now Gobert will back him up but if Gobert proves to be a starter I think the Jazz will have a choice to make.

Yeah been agreeing with getting Millsap, but I meant for THIS YEAR. Kanter is a much better scorer off the bench for us.

I think Kanter is proving that he is a bench player. I don't think anyone is going to offer him a starters salary. So the 2 big questions are: Can Gobert and Favors play together? Will Gobert develop a better offensive game?

I would answer No to the first and yes to the second.

After all this TV contract **** works itself out Favors may have the best contract in the league.(from an owners perspective) Favors could buy something real nice, Kanter ain't buyin ****. So maybe we keep Kanter as a back up center and trade Favors in a year if Rudy blossoms.

I understand your logic, but think it is a bit misdirected. Rudy is NOT a starter in the league...it's still going to take a couple of years (if ever- he may just be a rim-protecting sub). And I don't think you keep throwing good money after a guy who has shown he can't play defense.

Favors IS a legit starter. He's improved his offensive game every season. What the Jazz NEED is a 4 who can hit shots. Rudy doesn't have to start. He can get most of his minutes behind Derrick. And they could legitimately play 5-10 mins together against backups down the road. The problem the Jazz have right now is they don't have guards or SF's that are hitting their 3's. Hood, Hayward and Burks need to become threats. And if Trey continues to throw up bricks, he needs to be dealt, along with other assets, for a legitimate starter.

Totally disagree with this,Kanter will get starter money.Just because you don't like Kanter ,dont mean you have to be stupid. You have PG who is weak at passing to his bigs and looks for his shot 1st .Blaming Kanter for the Jazz defensive problems shows more hate for Kanter than actually seeing where the Jazz are breaking down on defense.
Kanter only played 8 minutes the 1st half when Dallas scored 69 pts.I saw it, everybody saw it ,how did Kanter get the blame.PG's were blasting into the paint on the Jazz defense.
Lets see our PG get an assist to someone not named Favors.

No reason to get all bent. Don't worry, as soon as he is traded or given his walking slip you can follow him to his new team and take your ******** with you.

Sorry for the double post. Meant to post this here and not the Rondo thread.

Teams that could use a center are Atlanta, Lakers, Miami, Knicks, and Minnesota.
1) HAWKS: Be crazy if Utah traded Kanter for Millsap. I'd also be intrigued by Payne (who could be a great stretch 4).
2) LAKERS: Would the Lakers trade an injured Randle for Kanter? Randle with Favors would be great next season.
3) MIAMI: Doesn't have the assets that make sense.
4) KNICKS: Shumpert's name always seems to be on the block. Definitely brings defense, but Knicks would also need to add Jason Smith for salary and maybe a pick.
5) MINNESOTA: Probably best trade partner. They have a lot of young bodies that could be combined for Kanter. EK should be able to play PF alongside Pekovic. But, you could also do Kanter for Bennett straight up. Bennett is still on a rookie deal so no extension for 3 years and could grow into a stretch 4. I would do that deal, especially if Utah also got GRIII or a 2nd rounder.

Love if we could get AB, but I think minny is happy with him. He is looking much better now that he has moved on from Cleveland.

I'm pretty sure we are in agreement for the most part. If one of the worst teams in the league decides they don't want Kanter starting for them what makes you think that another team would? Kanter is probably going to get back up big money imo and if that's the case I am fine having Kanter as a back up big. For the next few years we will be able to afford to keep him around. If couple years from now Gobert still looks like a back up then you move Kanter. If Gobert looks like he's going to get starter money then you choose between Gobert and Favors and have Kanter play backup C.

I don't think we should start to spend our assets until we know who we are building our team around. When one of our guys emerges as a legit first option then we can start to build a contender. If we skip steps we never will be.

I think if gobert develops into a starter, we can keep both he and favors, and add a starter caliber stretch four. If those three split the 96 big man minutes, we would be pretty awesome up front. Especially if favors develops the mid range game he has been talking about.
