What's new

calling it now: Kanter will be traded, and Burke will be in the deal

I've always liked Kanter and I still do

However, after last nights game I do not see him staying on the Jazz. This is his final season as a Jazzman IMO. He can still be good but it'll be somewhere else.

Kanter hurts his own cause.
He has to play with more passion and HIRE a new agent.
Kanter has at least one NBA-level skill and that is rebounding. That said he is trying to build up himself as a totally different player, player with finesse/range.
He cannot survive NBA that way. Sure he can shoot and score but he is a bully and he has to play like one.
More rebounds + more hustle = Kanter's bright future.

Kanter's biggest problem is that 4 years in, he still looks clueless. He's just not a smart player.

Sorry for the double post. Meant to post this here and not the Rondo thread.

Teams that could use a center are Atlanta, Lakers, Miami, Knicks, and Minnesota.
1) HAWKS: Be crazy if Utah traded Kanter for Millsap. I'd also be intrigued by Payne (who could be a great stretch 4).
2) LAKERS: Would the Lakers trade an injured Randle for Kanter? Randle with Favors would be great next season.
3) MIAMI: Doesn't have the assets that make sense.
4) KNICKS: Shumpert's name always seems to be on the block. Definitely brings defense, but Knicks would also need to add Jason Smith for salary and maybe a pick.
5) MINNESOTA: Probably best trade partner. They have a lot of young bodies that could be combined for Kanter. EK should be able to play PF alongside Pekovic. But, you could also do Kanter for Bennett straight up. Bennett is still on a rookie deal so no extension for 3 years and could grow into a stretch 4. I would do that deal, especially if Utah also got GRIII or a 2nd rounder.

Hawks: THey will likely lose Millsap unless they want to give him a big raise next year. Kanter gives them a safety net with some upside. Do the Jazz want to pay Millsap 10-12 a year with Booker on the books and looking awesome at 5 mill a year? Probably not.
Lakers: Kanter gives them some help up front and lets the Jazz deal with Randle's severe injury recovery and development. Sounds like something the Lakers might be interested.
Miami: They don't have jack ****.
Knicks: Shumpert is a defensive stalwart that can guard either wing position. He probably has more value than Kanter. Shumpert shut down Lebron the other night.
Minnesota: I don't see Kanter and Pek as a good fit, worse than Favors and Kanter actually. Bennett has improved to much at this point to be had for Kanter, thats why GMs have to be fast on their feet.

I think Minnesota would pick up the phone for a Kanter-Bennett swap, but they'd push the Budinger or Martin contracts into the equation. Martin's deal is a no-go for me. They may also want to deal Pek in such an equation, so maybe a third team would be needed.

Basically, I think they'd dump contracts for picks right now, and if Kanter-for-Bennett sat in the middle of a deal that facilitated salary relief and pick(s), they'd have to be interested. I think.

I'm not saying I'm that interested in Bennett, BTW. I haven't watched him very much, but I'd be surprised if his defense isn't a liability. Dunno.

They made him play C since last year, I wonder if he isn't more to the PF position now that Gobert seems to be knocking on the door for the starting C plus Favors seems to have improved offensively & shooting it from decent range.

Gobert
Favors
Hayward
Burks
Exum

Nice lineup for the next 3-4 years.

I see that as the future line up as well.

I think Gobert and Favors need a Milsap type guy playing next to them.

Exum
Burks
Hayward
Millsap type
Gobert or Favors

Favors is definitely a starter in the NBA. For now Gobert will back him up but if Gobert proves to be a starter I think the Jazz will have a choice to make.

I disagree, but I may be wrong. I like the Gobert and Favors combo. I wouldn't mind sacrificing a little offense for some great rim protection defense. I also think both Favors and Gobert's offense will improve. I think Favors already has nice form. I think he can learn to stretch the floor a little. I also think Gobert can improve significantly. He has nice form and is rapidly improving his free throw shooting. I can see him developing a mid range game as well. He strikes me as a smart guy. I think he'll figure it out. They should be having him start shooting some shots now so he can develop it. It can't hurt. If that guy develops an offensive game, he has the potential to be the best center in the league.

I think the idea of Favors and Gobert pairing together sounds like an opportunity you can't pass up without seeing if it can work first. We have to focus on building a great defensive team if we want to win a championship.

Minnesota wouldn't trade Bennett for Kanter. They'd be stupid too. And we would be stupid to not make that deal. Bennett is going to be a stud. He's not a bust.

Bennett won't be coming to Utah... neither will the Lakers part with Randall.
Do I smell a Kanter for Boozer swap?
