Can the Alec Burks experiment please end?

Offense is stagnate when Alec plays. Replace him with Booker and boom offence spring to life. I thought Alec is spose to become spark plug off bench what happened to him?

Booker should start Alec need to stop taking minutes away.
I wasn't aware Alec and Booker play the same position.

Maybe you should have watched the game more closely to see that Houston's offense is often set up by Harden driving and either drawing contact or kicking it out for a 3. Alec is no Harden, but the Jazz NEED a player who can putt pressure on the defense by either driving and getting to the line or kicking it outside. Problem is, the Jazz had ZERO players who could hit 3's consistently - or at all.

So, we give him a pass because he was guarding The Beard. Now we're giving him a pass because his teammates can't hit shots? What's next? We give him a pass because the jumbo-tron is reflecting off the floor and backboard, thus making him miss more? Lucifer, save me.

We don't need to give him a pass.
He played great last night.

Alec played great. If you can hold the beard to 33% shooting, 20% 3pt, 1.6 Assist/TO ratio you take that 7 days a week and twice on Sunday.

While I agree this was Burks most "within the offense" game, which is encouraging, but this was also the game were our offense was not running smoothly at all, which may have been why Burks was able to look like our best player.
Good post.

I didn't post in the leading scorer thread, but my thinking was that IF the offense runs smoothly, creating decent looks early-ish in the shot clock, and the Jazz do a good job getting out in transition, Gordo will likely lead the team in scoring. If the offense breaks down/doesn't create good looks and/or the team gets out in transition less (largely a function of defensive performance, which may be a function of Kanter's minutes), then Alec will likely lead the team in scoring.

For funsies though, name a starting SG that is worse than Burks. (That isn't starting only because of an injury)
Avery Bradley (BOS), Whomever ends up starting for Philly, Iman Shumpert (NYK), CJ Miles/Rodney Stuckey (Ind), Dion Waiters (Cle), Jared Dudley (Mil), KCP (Det), whomever OKC decides to start when healthy, Ben McLemore. That's 9.

The 13 I consider in a tier or two above Burks right now: DeRozan (Tor), Joe Johnson (BKN), Jimmy Butler (Chi...tough call), Dwyane Wade (Mia), Lance Stephenson (Cha), Kyle Korver (Atl...the offense is built around his shooting), Bradley Beal (Was...also close), Bledsoe/Dragic (Pho), Klay Thompson (GSW), Kobe Bryant (LAL), James Harden (Hou), Monta Ellis (Dal). That's 12 more, with a few Burks could conceivably overtake if his defense continues to look decent, as it did last night, and his spot-up shooting/decision making is on point.

The remaining 8 I have in the same tier as Alec: Victor Oladipo (Orl), Wes Matthews (Por...could be ranked above), Arron Afflalo (Den...could be ranked above), Wiggins/KMart (Min), JJ Redick (LAC), Danny Green (SAS), Eric Gordon (NOP...mostly due to injuries), Tony Allen (Mem).

Effectively, I have Alec in the 13-21 range, and think it's well within the realm of possibility that he moves into the top 10 by season's end. I'd be incredibly surprised if he ends up a bottom 5 starting SG this season .

To add to the above, Alec is one of only 4 current Jazzmen I consider proven NBA rotation players, along with Gordo, Favs and Booker. He's a 20+ minute player on pretty much every team in the league.

Except that is exactly what I'm saying. You are all missing the stuff that did not show up in the box score. You guys saw that we lost a very winnable game, right? He does not improve the team, regardless of how many points he has.
This is a joke, right? Had he scored less, and done a worse/equal job defensively on an easier cover, would he have had a better game?

Awwwwww... poor lil Davey-Poo got his hopes up for opening night! Sorry they got dashed, honey!! :(

Wow
I love this post.

The challenge for Burks fanboys is to put together a video of Burks leveraging the defense to create good shots for his teammates. When Harden has the ball, all 5 defenders are focused on him, and he's still able to consistently create good shots for himself and his teammates. When Burks has the ball, defenders stay home, and he's still not as effective as Harden scoring the ball.

lol

This post is rich. Is anybody claiming Burks is as good or better than Harden?

1. Where did I imply that anyone was claiming Alec is as good or better than Harden?

2. The post you quoted explains why Harden had a greater positive impact for his team than Alec last night. When Harden has the ball, he bends the defense, which leads to easy buckets for his teammates. Alec just isn't a good passer off the bounce, and opposing defenses play straight up when he has the ball. That's what happened last night. I've posted this multiple times in this thread.

3. You've only posted box score stats in this thread, and have refused to engage in any discussion that considers a player's role/context in general. Once again, how do you think Game Score is calculated?

4. FWIW, Alec had a nice drive-and-dish in the first half tonight. It was a terrific play.

Actually lots of fanz on here have implied this exact thing. The Burks love is only a little less irritating and unrealistic than the CJ love was once upon a bygone day.
