I hope so, but based on his reaction to this story I would guess not. I would be happy to accept his change if he said he doesn't condone what he said and apologized for it.

He did apologize for it.
This won't harm Trump at all. His backers know exactly who he is and don't care about any of his gaffs or "shortcomings." If they were making their decision to support this man on policy and competence, Trump would have never even become the Republican candidate. This news surprises no one on either side. I actually think his comments about 2nd amendment people etc. are way worse than this. Trump can literally say and do anything, and it has little effect on his success. Any other candidate in the history of our country would have been buried months ago.

When you're dealing with a cult of personality, nothing is certain. Disdain for Clinton is inexplicably rife at every level, equal to the disdain of Trump. Sam Harris on Trump puts this unbelievable candidate equalization in perspective for me, but we've never been dealing with traditional standards in this election.
His base wouldn't care, but what about the undecided voters he need to convince to beat Hillary?
My thoughts exactly. When I learned of the news, I didn't even flinch. The news was more or less a trifle when I heard it, and we continued talking about whatever it was we were talking about. Who was surprised indeed? This is par for the course. I can only hope it gets so much coverage and is spun in such a way that it has some sort of effect.

I hope to hell that you're right about this. I've seen this from the perspective of an independent, and I had made my mind up on Trump literally more than a year ago. I'm not sure exactly what an undecided voter is waiting for. It seems like undecideds at this point are either not going to vote or are voting third party (Johnson). I just don't understand what more they need to see, and that's why I'm a bit more skeptical that this will do anything to Trump, but man do I hope I'm dead wrong and he is excoriated for this.
