I believe Franklin got an infraction for starting a thread about a book on How parents should deal with homosexuality. Am I right?

He received the infraction for trolling. He posted in order to capitalize on the polarity of that issue. He essentially wanted to stir something up. If you genuinely believe he posted in order to generate meaningful discussion, you are fooling yourself.

I got an infraction for circumventing the filters on a word I didn't realize was filtered.

This is a really weak argument. If you type a word that's in the filter, the filter catches it. If you alter it, it's filter circumvention. When in doubt, type it out. The filter will do it's job.

Little things like that could add up over six months. All you would need is to get one infraction per month.

Again, the vast majority of posters don't seem to have a problem with this. If you're getting an infraction a month, face it, you're doing something wrong. Everyone slips up now and then. That's why you have to accumulate 5 before going bye-bye. 5 is a lot when you are not consciously trying to make trouble.

For the record, this style of engaging in a protracted and futile argument parallels Hopper/Aint, pretty much dead on.

Just sayin.

Edit: I was writing this post up while colton addressed the same issues. My apologies for the overlap.

That's a dangerous slippery slope to have mods divining motivations. All the topics people are passionate about and want to discuss are polarizing. This is just one example on how hard it is to determine where the line is even with available rules.

It was on a picture. I wasn't aware it was a filtered word until after it was too late. The thing about wisdom is you get it right after you need it.

Is that a warning or you just like to compare me to Hopper every chance you get?

I don't think it is futile. I've come away with a wealth of information.

No. I let 98% of chances go by. I just bring it up when I am particularly tired of your relentless yammering.

But the parallels are definitely there, regardless of who you are.

I can't recall having ever reported a poster/post. I figure if a post is inflammatory enough to get me upset at a name on a computer screen it's time for me to turn off the computer and go do something else.

Being frustrated with any authoritative system is bound to create some "feedback". Ultimately, our ideals about justice and rights are dependent on the common currency of social conventions, prevailing noms, the feelings and opinions even "authorities" fear just enough to pretend to respect.

That's why letting some agenda monkeys get the grip on public education or any other institution will always ultimately change the direction of development. Whether it is progress or relapse into babylonian autocracy is something you can really discuss only when it's not babylonian autocracy.

Hey, I need to get a message to Franklin. I want to eat out at that oriental joint in Sandy, or some "All you can eat" Chinese buffet. About next Tuesday I'll announce the meetup. Trout, Millsappa, anyone else wanna show?

Hey you! That should be a hoot. Tell those 2 hi for me when you get together. My internet acquaintance meet up days are over.

I've never reported a single poster. It's the internet people, I don't know you and you don't know me. Of course I'm going to say stuff to get a reaction out of people, because that's how I am in real life. Do I always mean it? Of course not, and my friends know that. I'm a sarcastic *******. You want people to be polite to each other and agree on everything, but that's just not realistic. You want to ban me for being vocal about my opinions? Fine, go for it. Can't see how that's tolerant either though.

Agree, no, but polite, or at least civil, yes. Not agreeing does not mean being an *** or a dick.

And yes, I've reported posts. Not too often, but I do if it is a repetitive thing the poster does. I generally will report language filters because I'm of the opinion that, with few exceptions, it's moronic to plead ignorance in not knowing how the filter works.
