You put Parsons or Ariza on our team in the same situation INSTEAD of Hayward last year, what kind of numbers to they put up? More points? I don't know, maybe. More rebounds, assists, blocks? I don't see it.

If he scares everyone off, low balls Hayward, pisses him off. Nothing good happens there if he truly believes he is part of the future.

He needs to follow thru with at least 13/yr or Max.

There is no way that Hayward turns down an offer this summer and takes this route. At this point in his carrier he well take the finical security and run with it. He is going to get a minimum of $8 million dollars more plus 3 more years of that increase just to sign what the Jazz had on the table. Zero chance of him taking the QO

Not necessarily. The early projections has the cap increasing by less than 5% between 14/15 and 15/16. max raises for signing other teams' free agents are 4.5% of the first year salary. If the growth in the cap slows or stays around 5%, the yearly salary relative to the cap doesn't decrease much over the 4 years. I haven't listened to Locke (I will now), but how much is he projecting the cap to increase over the next 4 seasons?

Pretty much. I was holding out hope the Jazz could outgrow an oversized offer but this is not the case.

Neither of those players are better than Gordon or make the team better in any way. It's not even a sideways step. It's a step back.

It could be argued that Parsons is every bit as good as Gordon and that his shooting would make the Jazz better with their lack of shooting at PF and C.

If Hayward gets a Max contract the Jazz should absolutely feel out Parsons. If he can be had for what they are both worth then sign him instead. What they are worth IMO is 9-11M per year. Any more than that for Hayward is insane.

It bears repeating, but Hayward's agent is a freaking genius. I wouldn't be shocked if the decline of his extension last year was because he came to grips that the landscape this year would present another 12 mil or so in their pockets.

Millsap was the Jazz's player who they developed, just like Gordo. The market set his price, just as with Gordo. The Jazz were more likely to get a better pick without him, just like with Gordo. But with Gordo, the Jazz can't let him go for nothing? There's nothing out there better than Gordo? Even though Millsap's deal was an absolute steal relative to Gordo's? I respect Locke's dedication, but he's full of ****.

Millsap was the Jazz's player who they developed, just like Gordo. The market set his price, just as with Gordo. The Jazz were more likely to get a better pick without him, just like with Gordo. But with Gordo, the Jazz can't let him go for nothing? There's nothing out there better than Gordo? Even though Millsap's deal was an absolute steal relative to Gordo's? The scary thing for me is that I believe that Locke puts forth to the fans what the franchise wants. He's a complete kiss *** in that way. He changes his opinions and analysis based on what looks good for the franchise. So Locke's statements today scream that the franchise is preparing the fan base for a ridiculously large contract to Gordon.

As someone who has been a Jazz fan for 22 years now, it's amazing to see history repeat itself... How many ****** over paid contracts will it take for the Jazz to learn from their mistakes? I have 2 cases.
1) Ostertag - Although his contract wasn't a max (jumped from $640,000 to $4.3 Million after rookie contract ended), this has to be the worst big man signing EVER during the best chance we had to win the finals. Imagine if they DON'T jump the gun and extend Ostertag. There were plenty of FA centers who were more serviceable than him.
2) AK47 - At the time, it seemed like a good idea, right? Put up insane numbers in his contract year (16/6/3/3/2 shooting 54%). I'd say his situation was very similar to Hayward's - #1 option on a stinky *** team, point forward, etc. AK went on to receive the 6 year max (salary went from $1.6M to $11M, climbing to ~$18M) Jazz draft D-Will, sign Memo and Boozer, and become one of the best teams in the West for a fun 3-4 years. I believe that if the jazz aren't locked up in that max deal with AK, they would've contended with the Lakers for a championship in '07-'10. It's those types of ****ty contracts that ruin everything else. Sure at the time AK looked great (I think Mark Cuban offered to trade Dirk for AK straight up at one point) but it was because he was the #1 option on a TERRIBLE team. It's the SAME situation with Hayward. Who knows? Maybe Exum turns out to be an elite PG and burks and Kanter finally come of their own. Maybe we get lucky in the free agency and end up being contenders. The last thing we want is to be impeded by a contract of a wanna be max player.

Preach it GVC. Only an insecure GM worried about his job would cave to the market in drastically overpaying Hayward. The world will not end if we let him go. An S&T that recovers some of his value would be preferable, but even if we get nothing saddling up to Hayward as a MAX player will become an albatross the second he signs the deal.

This is a big test for DL, and I think he'll pass with flying colors.

I guess they really believed DL when he said they would match.
