I am glad the NBA is taking measures to try to make the regular season more compelling. It's not exactly what I wanted and it might not work, but letting the regular season die without any intervention was a problem. It's good that they recognize it as a problem and I'm hoping the mid season tournament will have a similar effect as the play in game. So much whining about the play in tournament when it was first implemented, but I don't really see anyone complaining about it now. The NBA cannot be resistant to change.

I just wish they went to 2 games a week, occasionally 3. Make each game feel more eventful.

I like the 65 game minimum for NBA awards, but also can see the negative consequences. You might see some stars play a little less than they might otherwise in order to barely hit the minimum.

The 140% extension rule will likely impact us. Maybe not with our own players, but making it more difficult to pry guys away during free agency. Less guys will hit free agency now.

I definitely think less is more when it comes to the amount of games. But it seems like they really do not want to cut game and are afraid of losing revenue.

The NBA went the route of using a mid season tournament to elevate certain regular season games. We’ll see how that works. I’m willing to be open minded because the current format just isn’t great.

I would have have split the competitions up entirely. The argument against this is that teams will not care…and my answer to that is “so what?”. If stars sit during the tournament games, it means they have a scheduled rest game and don’t have to miss a regular season game. It also gives teams a chance to play other players more minutes throughout the course of the season. I think every fan base unanimously agrees that they want to see their young guys play and a mid season tournament/competition is a great way to do that. You could even open up the roster row both the NBA and G-League rosters.

Lower importance competitions are a thing in other sports and I think it’s really positive. For diehards these games can often be the most interesting to watch because teams will introduce new tactics and players. More importantly, however, is that the stars have a game where they can rest up and don’t have to miss as many regular season games. Seems counterintuitive to introduce a lower importance competition, but I think it would elevate the regular season and add to the league as a whole. I’d rather have 58 highly important regular season games and 10-15 less important tournament games instead of the current 82 game slog.

Two regular season games + one additional tournament game during the week would be an ideal schedule from a fan perspective IMO. You get more competitive, meaningful regular season games and a third game with less consequence, but still interesting for some fans nonetheless.
