What's new

Chad Ford has us taking Exum at #5.

Between Vonleh and Exum, Exum has the greater chance of busting. Vonleh size and rebounding would allow him to have a rotation spot immediately.

Exum also has the biggest chance of being a star. He has a huge risk/reward factor. It's going to take a lot of stones to pull the trigger on Exum.

KOC wouldn't even sniff Exum, DL just might take that chance.

Just like KOC didn't sniff Kanter, who had a similarly sparse track record of playing experience.

not seeing much bust factor from Dante honestly....

Positionally, Dante has elite size (one of the tallest and longest PGs in the league) AND elite speed (faster sprint times than the much smaller Damian Lillard & chris paul, and the best agility times in the draft class). pending an unforeseen injury... he will at the very least be a serviceable player.

Most players need at least 1 "elite" trait to thrive, it seems very likely that Dante has at least 2.

He also has acclaim for his passing and vision; if it is not elite, it is at least above average. I think his floor is a starter. That =/= bust to me.

*If he can play PG*

I prefer Gordon personally, but would be excited with Exum.

How far is he until he can contribute at the NBA level?

How bad is his jump shot?

Can he actually play PG?

So many questions with him that I can't begin to answer until I've seen him play against some legit competition in a league setting.

It's said Exum needs one year, which is plenty fair for an 18 year old international player. He looks more like a SG to me.

From what I've seen of his shooting, which is basically the Hoops summit, highlight footage including 1 or 2 full games from the U17 and U19 tournaments, and a full game vs Aussie HS competition. His jumpshot at this point in effectiveness is comparable to a John Wall, Derrick Rose Westbrook, or Carter-Williams meaning a click or 2 above Rajon Rondo. Exum's FT% id expect to be around 65%. Not only does he need to improve his effectiveness, he needs to get his shot off much quicker. From what i understand his shot is improving though, it should be very interesting to hear about his shooting from workouts.

Yeah it would, taking a consensus top-4 player at #5 would be a huge risk.

He's not a consensus top-4 player...at least if the "consensus" includes Dennis Lindsey, or some of the others who now say Vonleh is sneaking into that top group. DL said in an interview there is a top-3. Pretty sure he meant Embiid, Parker and Wiggins in that group; I don't see how else it could be interpreted. And if Exum can't play PG, I wouldn't be excited over having him be the pick. Jazz will likely re-sign Hayward and already have another helluva good SG in Burks, so the 2 is covered. If the margin between players is very small, which I think it is with Vonleh, Exum and Gordon, then you have to consider need. Gordon at SF is the best from a pure need standpoint. Vonleh fits because the Favors and Gobert can play the 5, leaving Vonleh to develop behind Enes at PF.

I'll most likely just quit being a fan. Can't root for so many players I hated prior to the drafts. I suffered enough during KOC era.

I'm so sorry. Sounds like you've had it rough. I hear the the Raptors are looking for fans.

If Exum falls to us, and we don't take him, I may get banned (again), cause imma be real mad. We would be fools to pass on him. And we would be larger fools if we passed on him cause he didn't work out for us. Anybody complaining about that is acting like a bitch, plain and simple.

Always draft coachable talent. Exum falls under that category.
