That exacerbated it, certainly, but I believe by it's very nature social media will always function in the role of radicalization, for some that will be posting memes about how much they hate the gays, and on the fringes it will breed killers. Even before algorithms we had the -chan culture in Internet forums serving the same purpose. Before Facebook, or maybe Facebook adjacent at least, there were online incel groups that radicalized people like the Christchurch Muslim Church shooter and the shotgun killer in England. Sites like rotten.com were places to consume violent images and content. Like-minded individuals will find a way to get together. The Internet ramped this up by 100k times, brought the back-alley meeting places out of the alley and into our house. And then organized modern social media with it's algorithms increased on that by a factor of a million. And it will be the ultimate tool for our own destruction. I wish our country did more to regulate this ****, like many other developed countries do right now.
 
Obviously there are a lot of factors here. I think he was probably on the spectrum to some degree. He would have been finishing high school when covid happened and all the fear mongering and social/mind control ******** that came along with that. Who knows what meds the kid was on, on top of it all. Our country has gone so far downhill in the last decade... When you think about all the dangers associated with any one of these things like propaganda, social media, over medication, poison food and water supply, lack of healthcare, lack of counseling and therapy resources, all the covid measures and so on.

When you consider all these factors and the obvious dangerous impact it has on society, I find it hard to understand why there are still people out there that think the pharmaceutical industry, food industry, the media, the war machine, etc have been doing anything but lying to them. How you could think all these major factors/institutions failed this kid and is all somehow incidental or just a coincidence is beyond me.

The main factor is he came from a right wing family of gun nuts.
