We're keeping both. Even if Rudy and Donovan don't like each other personally, they can work together professionally. That's how life works. Rudy is a victim of the pandemic just like everyone else.

If we were going to move Rudy it would be because he wants to leave in free agency or because he wants a supermax and the front office doesn't want to pay that much. However, given where the cap is going to be next year, both of those scenarios become unlikely.

I have serious trouble picturing a scenario of trading one, keeping the other, leading us to a title

Can't really think we'd get same impact Rudy has on winning, even more on modern nba

Also doubt we'd receive a more skilled and/or less flawed player as our first scoring option if we traded away Mitchell

Maybe trade Mitchell would make more sense in terms of the roster timeline and don't wait too much to start a rebuild. If we traded Rudy, we'd most problably fail to get better, but keep trying to build around Mitchell, than struggle to put together a really strong team before he decides to go out for nothing on his ufa (or maybe at least show some compassion to be open on his decision to leave but act more in a Paul George way, and not so much in a Kawhi Leonard, Anthony Davis style)

If Rudy is traded it's because their relationship broke and the Jazz chose him. Also, the Jazz will choose Donovan for several reasons. At that point he better have patience on the winning part cause it'll take a few years to adjust back, depending on what you get in return I guess. There was an article that said "if it comes to that, Jazz will choose Donovan every day of the week".

I have a fear that we will choose Donovan but he won't want us, maybe I'm still wounded by the Hayward situation, I hope things are different this time around.

If I had to pick I would pick Spida

Looks like we need to lose Rudy again for a few months just so some fans can be reminded of what this team is without him.

Mitchell is a very good player, but his impact on win/loss is nowhere close to Rudy's.

The only argument for Mitchell is if you're worried about Gobert leaving as a FA. Otherwise, as long as Rudy wants to be in Utah and he's healthy, trading him would be ****ing stupid.

You can start by choosing him if this isn’t fixable between the two and showing you back him. I don’t know yet honestly. I don’t know. Like none of us are flawless man. He’s allowed to have a bad moment. He’s had 3 years of great ones. Also. Regardless. You realize his contract will extend him through 5 seasons, not end until 2026. He will be turning 30 that year. He will have played 9 seasons here by then. 6 more years of Donovan and most of his prime, is something you take no questions ask and worry about 2025 or 2026 when it gets here and hope he’s Dame. He’ll be 30 then and a grown man probably with a family. If the reason you’re choosing Rudy is because you’re afraid of losing Donovan in 6 years that’s a very bad reason. Donovan is probably the 3rd most valuable player the franchise has ever had. I don’t think it’s a guarantee he’s gone, I don’t think it’s a guarantee he stays either obviously.

Listen, I think what we’re all a little worried about is yes a Hayward similar situation. I think we’d all actually like to see the dude be who he seems to be, have his number retired, get a statue, and be worshipped here forever, and it would be nice to get a title or at least have a realistic shot at one during that journey. We want Donovan to be Dame. I would like that with Rudy too, but I’m not with giving Rudy the super-max at all. If he two of them Donovan is the more valuable guy to the franchise and the city quite honestly.

Saying Donovan’s fake is probably an over-reaction to this. He’s having a personal relationship issue with a co-worker. We’ve all been upset with someone before only we didn’t have to have it near this publicly hashed out. He should have handled this better no doubt. But here’s what’s real. A month ago Donovan was at high school basketball games girls and boys and talked to a few of the players as well. Like it’s a moment they’ll have their entire lives. He just helped financially back feeding the entire Granite School Districts kids while they can’t go to school. He drove to Logan a year ago to go to an Aggie football game. Some of it’s PR, but a lot of it is a really positive difference. Like his commitment will have to be very very deep to keep him here. A commitment very very few players have. We’ll see. I’ll take Donovan in our community 6 more years and watching him play basketball through the age 23-30 without any hesitation. Hopefully he’ll stay beyond that but yeah it’s gonna be hard to keep him and it’s going to take a conscious commitment from him like Dame has with Portland that never lets the idea of leaving creep into his mind like Dame for him to stay.

The other arguments. His marketability. The tickets he sells. The fact he’s 23 and a couple years out from his prime. Players around the league like him more. It’s Donovan and it’s not close from a business and franchise perspective. It’s. Not. Close.

I pick both until I have to pick one.

When that discussion happens, we have to remember the playoffs which is the most important measuring stick for a player. Playoff basketball is different than season basketball.

Yes, Gobert provides stability over the course of the year to provide us a chance in the playoffs. However, Rudy simply doesn't have the skill set to dominate in the playoffs. Whether against Adams, Capella or PJ Tucker, Gobert hasn't been a max much less super max player in the last 3 playoff series. His offense is so limited and great teams can neutralize his defensive strengths.

Donovan, on the other hand, was clearly our best chance of winning games in those 3 playoff series. And he was our best chance of winning games without much offensive help. It's unfortunate we couldn't see a playoffs with him surrounded by these better weapons.

If you factor in age and what he means financially to the franchise, this isn't close at all.
