Chris Johnson is a Keeper

84 percent from the foul line for his career -- not bad. His stroke is better than a lot of guys on the team with much higher percentages. I'm talking potential. Maybe I'm wrong but if you look at his shooting mechanics, I think it's possible

How real are his shooting mechanics? Really real, kind of real, or unreal?

CJ's mechanics are only 2.3/10 on the unreal scale pls leave this evaluating to the experts

I like his energy. He plays hard. His defense is pretty good at times. But he's soooooo bad offensively. I mean. I don't know that I want to see more Chris Johnson playing meaningful minutes.

And then there's Leandro Barbosa. His shot looks horrible and yet he seems to make a lot of them and has spent 13 years in the NBA. Maybe CJ just needs to have a worse stroke and have some of his shots go in.

My point in OP had nothing to do with his shooting, in any case. It was his hustle, passion, energy. I was just saying that other players who were not good shooters but had drive and desire were able to improve their shooting. Look, for example, at Jason Kidd. He was a horrible shooter when he came into the league. By the end of his career he was solid from three.

There needs to be a guy like him or Bolomboy on the roster just for the energy it brings, especially with Booker gone. Though I get that I seem to value that more than other people do. Still, I'd rather have a couple less talented/more passionate guys on a roster, at least towards the end of a bench, than two equivalent guys with more talent but who just seem like they don't care if they're there or not.

You want passion, energy, and excitement? What do you think we are paying Uncle Joe for. . .

I see why all of these teams that released CJ raved about him, and I'm sure the Jazz will be on that list now, too. He just couldn't hit those wide open corner 3s at a good clip.

In other news, Memphis waived DJ Stephens who you might know from his ridiculous summer league and preseason dunks, and Jordan Adams who was taken one pick before Hood. I actually liked Adams predraft, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone like Philly picks him up. He's just had some weird injuries...cartilage transplant?! Not sure what that entails (microfractures?), but it sounds serious/bad.

Easily telegraphed decision. Withey is a better value & a better roster need, plain and simple

Dante Exum said Chris Johnson was the hardest working player he's ever been around. Seemed legitimately bummed Chris was cut.

Dante Exum on Chris Johnson, who was waived by the Jazz on Saturday: "Chris was the hardest-working guy I knew."
.

I don't think anyone is surprised by this, nor am I. The point of my post was that it's too bad we can't keep him and that he could develop into someone we had wished we kept.

I think Chris Johnson is what he is. He's not a young rookie. He's unlikely to ever be more than we have seen. I like the guy as a player. But we just didn't have room for him, especially at his position.

I'm torn. Pretty awesome we are actually making hard decisions to fill out the roster this year, but bummed because I really loved watching CJ, especially this preseason.
