Christie Reconsiders '12 GOP Run

So what are his redeeming qualities? I'm pretty unimpressed with the entire field right now. I'd prefer to see Obama get reelected as long as there is a Republican majority in either the house or senate. That way hopefully no one will be able to screw things up too badly.

From what I have seen he is a no nonsense, do what it takes kind of guy. He doesn't seem worried about public opinion and does what takes to get the job done. Salmon Hobo doesn't like him because he took on and beat up the teacher's union in NJ.

Of all the candidates out there I think he's the only one with the cajones to make the difficult decisions and then stick with it regardless of whether or not it's the popular decision.

Here's a few clips.

I could care less about the teacher's union but thanks for telling me what I care about and why I don't like him. Listen, the guy's not all bad. Like you said, he speaks his mind. And that's very likable. But don't let him fool you. His attack on public education in the state (the state with the best education results from a data perspective in the country mind you) has been personal for him (look up his history with the NJEA/NEA), shady, and misinformed. None of that is good.

So what are his redeeming qualities?

He can kick fat *** girl teachers asses with one liners!

Nothing says that you can lead the United States of America and kick *** than telling off a 40 year old single elementary school teacher, who spends her time working with 5 and 6 year olds.

Kicking a woman teacher's *** is basically the same as kicking the corporations, terrorists, and lobbyists asses.

Teachers are so overpaid. Damn losers, claiming they can't get along with their salaries! Go without refrigerators or electricity dummies! Back in 1776, people didn't have electricity and yet they did just fine!

I would seriously vote Paris Hilton, before I'd ever vote most of these candidates.

2012 is going to be an epic battle of dumb and dumber.

A wimp incumbent Pres vs a whole bunch of idiotic AM radio hosts. "Ponzi scheme..... I created x amount of telemarketing jobs (but will omit the telemarketing part)... I'm Mormon and was born a billionaire and I can relate to all Americans cuz I'm real cool!..... Government sucks and is bad and we need to get rid of it (so vote for me for a government position? Huh? That's like Jsloan talking about how worthless and dumb Basketball is yet wanting to be appointed coach????).... And my personal favote, Christie, blame everything on the teachers. Forget wall street. Forget banks too big to fail. Forget the oil companies. Forget big Pharm. Forget even, the NBA players. Blame the teachers. Lousy teachers!"

And here's why he'll never get the Republican Nomination

Has a sitting President ever died of natural causes while in office? I'm pretty certain the answer is no but if Christie was elected, he'd give that honor a run for the money.

I know FDR died of a stroke while in office. Is that considered natural causes?

Average teacher salary in New Jersey was over $62,000 per year. It is one of the higher paying states for teachers.

I am curious, what constitutes a difficult wage to live on? I raised a family of 6 on about that amount until I could work my way up to more. We could have made it on $60k for a long time, as we actually thought about staying at that level because I really liked that job. But I chose to move to get more money. Our budget would have meant not buying new cars, not eating out as much, not as many movies, more vacations like camping and hiking rather than Disneyland or Six Flags. But we could make it work and it didn't feel like poverty.

I am not saying teachers do not deserve more money, as I absolutely believe they do deserve more money, if for no other reason than to attract a higher caliber teacher, but we make it sound like they all live in cardboard boxes and eat out of garbage cans and sell organs to barely scrape by. That is largely just not the case. My daughter's 3rd grade teacher last year had a boat and 4 jet skis and spends a month every summer on Lake Pal ("utahn" for Powell) with his extended family. Then take a step up to administrator and you are looking at a jump to $85k+ (many principals make well in excess of $100k).

I also agree with him about the difference between the public and private sector. I am now making about 20% less than I did 3 years ago. I have not seen a raise larger than 2% in the last 5 years. And it doesn't look like we are getting one next year as the economy sinks lower. I think Christie put it in pretty clear terms about where the money went and why. It sure didn't sound like he was simply addressing one teacher and "putting her in her place". It sounded to me like he was addressing the issue. But I guess if you didn't like his answer then ridiculing him because it was in response to a poor helpless teacher is a great way to justify not listening to what was being said.

If you didn't like the part where he told her to be respectful, that is just ridiculous. He was absolutely right. If she were just doing it to get soundbites and was going to mock him while he answered then it was not a serious question. Is it a terrible thing to expect reasonable and respectful discourse? I expect that of my employees during all-employee meetings. If I have one asking questions just to get a rise out of people, then I let him know he is free to come talk to me after the meeting, but I will only address the question if it isn't just trying to be inflammatory.

The clip about sohail mohammed really made Christie seem as a logical, no-nonesense type of guy. Curious to see how he continues on with the race to GOP nomination.

I didn't see anything there that would dissuade me from voting for him.

Yeah, well you're one of the smarter ones.

The right has been taken over by the loonies. While he might have some general election traction, in the primaries he'll be labelled as just another Northeastern Republican RINO.

And if he tries to reinvent himself on the national level a la Giuliani he'll come across as disingenous just like he did.

By the way unemployment in NJ is still higher than the national average even with all the austerity measures he's taken. It was 9.7 when he took office and now it's 9.3. Christie will find out when you hitch yourself on to the austerity bandwagon you better be creating jobs fast otherwise he'll have a hard enough time getting re-elected as governor; let alone president.

1) Where do you live?

2) I'm not crying I don't make enough. I find it laughable that people like Christie insist that I am essentially overpaid. There's a big difference.

3) Your mention that teachers become administrators if they want to make money is part of the problem. So then what? We have fewer strong teachers? The bottom line, as I see it, is that the corporate world pays significantly more and the number of reasons for someone to get into teaching is few and far between, between compensation and the ******** you have to put up with.

I didn't see anything there that would dissuade me from voting for him.

Of course you wouldn't.

We could show a picture of him murdering his own mom and it wouldn't affect you. You already have your mind made up. And given your past ah-hem, right wing dribble, I'd expect nothing less.

No clue.

Ding ding ding! Winner!!! And when your industry is under constant scrutiny and is blamed for everything that is ill in society, you'll find thousands of people fleeing this industry to find work elsewhere. Which, sadly, has been the case for decades.

Now, in 2011, we look in a dazed amazement as to why our country is in the state that it's in.

That is largely just not the case. My daughter's 3rd grade teacher last year had a boat and 4 jet skis and spends a month every summer on Lake Pal

And what does their spouse earn? What are their family contributions? has she inherited anything? Outside contributors? For all we know, this teacher is receiving contributions from Karl Malone.

What inside access, if any, do you have?

You've proven, once again, how teachers are under constant scrutiny. No other profession is looked at soooo closely and with so much disdain, as you have just proven.

f you didn't like the part where he told her to be respectful, that is just ridiculous.

Couldn't see her face or what she was doing. Maybe he was just being a smartass or overly sensitive.

Why should be believe anything that Christie says? He's a politician! He and his ilk have campaigned for years about the "evils" of government and how "government" cannot be trusted. Now, all of a sudden, we're supposed to "trust" the government?

How do we know that Christie "offered" the unions anything? How do we know that the unions weren't being screwed? How do we know if specifics details have been omitted?

Why should we, bash government when it's convenient, then trust as gospel, everything that this governor is saying?

In just the past year, the Utah Governor, Gov. Herbert, gave away $13 million dollars to a private contractor in respect to the I-15 reconstruction. There were emails that gave pretty darn incriminating reports on how other private contractors had "lobbied" to have their proposals accepted (which would make them those who would reconstruct I-15).

In those emails, it "reminded" the governor when making the decision, that a certain contractor had contributed a lot to his campaign.

Now why, I ask, would this be a necessary detail in "deciding" which proposal was the best for the state?

Later on, this contractor won the contract. But not before a few UDOT officials had already promised a rival contractor the project (and funding). Apparently their proposal seemed the best to them.

To avoid costly litigation, Gov. Herbert fired those officials, and paid the losing rival contractor 13 million.

The case was settled and the media has since "forgotten" the rest of this story.

Gov. Herbert has denied that those emails had any influence on his decision and that the winning contractor truly had the best proposal. Uh-huh, sure.

Just like how St. Christie, martyred himself, to single handedly, save education. But those unscrupulous, power hungry, evil unions did everything in their power, to screw themselves over.

Bottom line? corruption reeks. And no other organization on earth, is more corrupt than public office (and New Jersey is right up there with Mexico, Lakers, Yankees, mafia, and Afghanistan).

I'll trust unions and working people much more before I'll trust corporations and government.

If you find this upsetting, blame guys like Christie. They campaigned against government. Now that they're government, they're part of the evil empire they so much despised and denounced.

You and paranoia are pretty good friends I see. I said nothing disdainful about teachers at all. My daughters teacher is a very nice guy. I like him a lot and think he does a great job and I think he deserves a raise. I simply pointed out that he has a boat and some other toys and doesn't work much in the summer time. This is an anecdotal example of the way some teachers get by. His wife is a teacher too, part-time kindergarten, by the way. He is smart with his money. Tough concept I know. But you simply ignored my point, that this continual portrayal of teachers as poverty-stricken street-people is ridiculous.

Like you said, anecdotal.
