CJ Miles and the 6th man award

So what?
Even Wes Mathews was a role player last season. And he was pretty consistent. Despite being a rookie.

If you are going to play the "role player" card for Miles, then it doesnt fly in the face of Miles wanting to jack up shots like Ray Allen every night anyways.

Wes Mathews, Millsap(even in his rookie year) and Harpring(in his first 2-3 yrs with the Jazz) are pretty good examples of role players who were also consistent. It is not unfair to hold Miles to those standards. Even Watson this year has been pretty consistent for that matter.

You talk as if being a role player and being consistent is always mutually exclusive.
Pretty consistant? Did youy see how bad he played in the playoffs? also what is his shooting percentage like 35%?

I still think when CJ drives to the basket good things happen. Also what an amazing alley to Evans last night. CJ > Jordan.

That was sooooo last year, DJ. And before the 2010 playoffs, Miles had had less than 100 minutes of playoff time. Despite those on this board who ignorantly deny it, on-court experience matters in development.

Oh, and btw, it's easy to look up that his FG% in the playoffs last year was 44% across the 10 games that he played. Defense was probably another story (nearly 5 PF/game), but his shooting wasn't as bad as people might have painted.

That being said, this year he is in the top 20 in FGA/48 minutes. Such data would support the Chucker moniker; he's only top 40 in FGM.

No he wasn't. He was tough on D and that seems to have masked his shooting inconsistency (especially from 3).

He shot 48% for the season last year as a ROOKIE and 38% from the three. You dont get those averages if you are terribly inconsistent. And of course his defense was consistent too and that was a nice bonus as well. He didnt have frequent stretches where he'll go 10-12 one night and 1-9 the next two nights like Miles.

All the other Miles homers arguing that Wes Mathews was inconsistent too, should take a look at his numbers again in the regular season.

I am talking about the regular season not the playoffs. He averaged 48% and 38% over 82 games while being graded one of the best defenders on the team night in and night out and STARTING for most of the games unlike Miles who comes off the bench.. Come back and talk to me when Miles gets as consistent as that.

As for the playoffs, he played pretty decently even if his FG% might have taken a hit. Still not bad, considering that he was a rookie starting and playing in his FIRST playoffs and having to guard guys like Kobe and Carmelo. Not bad at all for an undrafted rookie. And he was a role player too.

So just because you are a role player it doesnt mean you can have wild swings in your sooting from game to game and that you have the license to chuck up shots even when you clearly do not have the hot hand

Mathews and Harpring were far from consistent every night. .

Wrong. I have already talked about Wes. Reg Harp, I was talking about his early years. Check his first year with the Jazz when he averaged 18 ppg or something like that. I remember that year well and Harp was the most consistent player on the team apart from Stockalone.

So dont give us all the BS that it is perfectly OK to be inconsistent as long as you are a role player. It is'nt.

You're right. I wanted to delete that post shortly after making it. I looked for game logs yesterday, but could only find this season's. Matthews has been plenty consistent this year, especially after a month or so of a learning curve.

I did'nt even look at this year for him. But I am impressed if he is already consistent in yet another new system for him in just his second year.
Some guys just get it right off the bat. They know what the coaches want them to do and irrespective of what limitations they might have talent-wise, they can bring it every night. Role player or not.
We can hope that Miles gets there some day.It would be a shame if he did'nt because he has the skills to atleast be a pretty good and consistent role player.
