I think he could be a really good candidate. He needs to get more consistant and I think he is getting there. Who else is going to be in the running? Im assuming the Jason Terry and Crawford guys will be there. It probably wont happen but its not impossible.

The future of this thread will go as follows:

A few posts will be seen in agreement, speaking of cj as the next ginobli;
Next game arrives, cj miles 0/7 3p% 2/10 fg 2 TO and everyone blames KOC for not dumping this high school prospect a long time ago. The process repeats itself throughout the 2010/2011 nba season. That is all.

Miles comes in and shoots a lot. When he's hitting, he reminds me of Jamal Crawford. When he's on and off, he reminds me of Vernon Maxwell or JR Smith. When he shoots 1 for 7, he reminds me of Rafer Alston.

The fact that he reminds you of so many players shows how versatile the guy is. It is a shame he is not on the all star ballot

speaking of cj as the next ginobli;

This is why people see CJ as such a disappointment.

Miles is not a star. Not a 6thman. Not a 20ppg scorer.

Miles is a good ROLE PLAYER that can help tilt a game in your favor.

He is getting paid 3.7 million, ROLE PLAYER money. That is why he is a ROLE PLAYER.

See what I am getting at here?

Not any more than if you change the names and numbers to say "AK is getting paid 18 million, MAX PLAYER money. That is why he is a MAX PLAYER."

CJ's salary is not highly relevant to the discussion as to whether he's a 6th man or a star or something in between. And your comment relies on the dubious assumption that players are paid what they are worth. Such is not the case for CJ or AK; it hasn't been the case for Millsap, either, and probably still isn't.

Not sure that his expectations are any different from that of anyone else: play tough defense, play within the offense, take smart shots. If he's a designated shooter, then maybe a little more slack on the shooting. But not free reign.

So what?
Even Wes Mathews was a role player last season. And he was pretty consistent. Despite being a rookie.

If you are going to play the "role player" card for Miles, then it doesnt fly in the face of Miles wanting to jack up shots like Ray Allen every night anyways.

Wes Mathews, Millsap(even in his rookie year) and Harpring(in his first 2-3 yrs with the Jazz) are pretty good examples of role players who were also consistent. It is not unfair to hold Miles to those standards. Even Watson this year has been pretty consistent for that matter.

You talk as if being a role player and being consistent is always mutually exclusive.

He's not a role player, they do one thing very well and generally suck at everything else. CJ doesn't excel at any one thing, but at times does everything well. He can score inside, he can score outside, and he can score unassisted. There is no one on the team that can do all three of those things not named Deron Williams. That is 6th man material to me.

I agree 100%. It's why I defend him on this site. It's not because the guy is great. It's because he is good enough for the money he makes and is still improving every year.
