It's for two reasons:

Utah has nothing to gain by beating byu because we are expected to and it would be byu's biggest game of the season, or their "Super Bowl" as Kyle Van Noy put it.

byu is a legitamitely dirty team with dozens and dozens of cheap shots over the years to prove it. This is heightened by the rivalry game aspect, and it's just not worth risking our players health.

The rivalry game will continue, but mostly because the big money (old people) donors want to see the game continue, not because the die hard fan base wants it. (I'm sure 99% of casual Utes fans want the rivalry game, but 99% of casual Jazz fans think the Jazz suck right now.)

ESPN just coined BYU as America's team. I'm not even a BYU fan or practicing mormon. I've been out of state more during the college football season than in so please, kindly, shut your pie hole. :)

How the **** can one be so arrogant to deny or want such a classic rivalry game? Seriously, though. I'm a die hard Ute fan and I can wrap my mind around how douchey Ute fans are that say this. #asshats

BYU deserved the game. They were clearly the better team.

The refs sucked ***. Delayed false start whistles all game long. Someone is gonna get killed one day with that crew. Blackmon's 1 handed grab was sick. BS PI call.

Mangum is money. His arm and poise at this stage is just incredible. He's making big throws that no team in Utah has seen in years. Utah wishes they had a QB like this. They crave him. Which is why so many have swarmed social media to downplay his game. Quarterback U has their newest product!

I hope to see a good showing in the Rose Bowl. I don't expect a win, since I think UCLA is a top PAC 12 team. So I just hope for a good competitive game. The one I want is to beat Michigan in the Big House to shut up all these lil brother fans.

Pretty sure it's not cool to punch people in their junk unless you are getting raped. A late tackle isn't enough. It could be a cultural thing I guess, I always heard BYU had weird moral standards.

Super glad BYU pulled out the W. Should help us after they get pummeled by Michigan and UCLA.

Why do you pretend to be a "die hard" Ute fan?? It invalidates all of your arguments because we know you are not being sincere.

If you told the truth and said that you like the Utes, but also pull for byu as an in state team, then the things you say would carry more weight.

Being a die hard means you live and die by the team. Almost everything you have said over the years about Utah sounds like, "hey, I'm a Huge Utes fan, but I gotta give props to the cougs here."

Your angle is very obvious bro.

Interesting ranking this week. Gotta sting a little for you arrogant Utes fans that BYU jumped your team in the AP poll.

Not sure the Cougars can maintain the luck but no matter who your team is it has been damn exciting to watch. If you're truly a football can you can admit that. If not, well douche are you, I say.
