Welcome to Colton's 2014 Mock Draft Compilation, v. 2.0. Here are who the mock drafts are listing as the "best players". See below for details. It should give a pretty good idea of who will be available when the Jazz pick at 5, 23 and 35. I'll try to do this at least once more before the draft.

Misc observations:

1. 12 of the 17 mock drafts have Wiggins going #1.

2. 13 of the 17 have Parker going #2.

3. 11 of the 17 have Exum going #3.

4. 12 of the 17 have us taking Vonleh at #5. 2 have us picking Randle, 2 have us picking Gordon, and 1 has us taking Embiid.

5. The highest ranked player any draft has available at #23 is Elfrid Payton. More reasonable highly ranked players who might be available are Nurkic (6 mocks have him available at #23), Anderson (7 mocks), and Napier (10 mocks).

6. The highest ranked player any draft has available at #35 is also Payton. More reasonable highly ranked players who might be available are Clarkson (5 mocks have him available at #35), Grant (5 mocks), and Adams (7 mocks).

7. 6 of the 17 mocks think Embid will still be on the board at #5, and only 1 of those think the Jazz will pick him.

8. No one has Embid falling past #6.

9. Elfrid Payton wins the wild card award, with his projections being anywhere from #8 to second round. Zach LeVine is the runner up, with his projections being anywhere from #9 to #27.

Ranking details: I used the following mock drafts as "voters" for the best players. That is, I assumed they ranked the players in the order that they felt like the players deserved to be drafted. (This is an incorrect assumption, because some mock drafts account for perceived team need, but it should be close.) Then I used the "instant run-off voting" algorithm in a program I wrote to deduce who deserved to be ranked in the top spot, then in the second spot, then in the third spot, and so forth. changes for v.2.0: I added six mocks and updated a bunch. Mostly used Jun 20 as the cut-off for which drafts I included, althought you can see there are two exceptions. Using Chad Ford version 8.1.
 
Another Excellent mock from Colton, Im very high on all 4 emboldened players.

This draft would be a B+ minimum.

I believe that Spencer Dinwiddie is one of the sleepers in this draft, without the injury 'The Mayor' would have been by a good margin my favorite pick at 23.

When he was playing Colorado was 14-2, he was shredding the nets and all efficency stats... 67% TS%...

Clint Capela lifts off the ground like the rocketeer... for those concerned with Vonleh's hops, hed be a great compliment.

The premier rebounder in this draft, with 3 pt range, who shows flashes of handle and driving ability, he has quick enough feet to hedge P+R's then recover and block a shot and hes a solid 247lbs at 18..

How he stands out to some as a bad pick totally eludes me..

If he shoots proficiently from 3, as he's expected to, doubters arent going to have much to complain about hes no Channing Frye if hes shooting well hes also doing plenty of other things. His ceiling is VERY high because of the shooting, and for the 1000's of posts hating on Noah, i haven't heard much of a legitimate case discounting his shot..

You can point out the lack of attempts, but he shot more and at better rate as the season progressed.. A big part of the appeal with Noah is clearly this kid is showing rapid improvement, I dont think anyone could argue otherwise, tbpfhwy.

Listening to Walt Perrin talk about his post moves (and how he was a perimeter player in HS) gives me the impression the Jazz feel this way too.

he lacks elite explosiveness as a shot-blocker and finisher around the basket, and ranks as one of the poorest passers in this draft class, posting the worst assist to turnover ratio and assist per possession rate, to go along with the third worst PPR, which could be an issue as he transitions from the center spot collegiately to the power forward position in the NBA.

Constant turn overs, poor finisher, athletically meh, defensively meh, and he moves funny too.

Pure Point Rating - it was a metric created to measure Point Guards..

how da **** is that stat relevant to Noah Vonleh...

that line is nothing more than filler, anyone who has bad assist #'s will of course have a bad Pure Point Rating

Walt Perrin in the interview after the workout said that he can pass. He apparently averaged 7 assists a game as a sophomore in HS for New Hampton.

His passing is far from a lost cause, this is a player who transitioned from Point Forward, always facing the basket, to playing Center and seeing double and sometimes triple teams. If you dont want to give him the benefit of the doubt, fine, but its not like hes shown that he cant pass the ball throughout his career.

Check any of his HS footage out, you will see him dribbling the ball down the court, creating with the dribble and dumping the ball off to open players once help arrives.
 
I'd love to get Nurkic with our 2nd pick. He looks very solid to me. I doubt he falls that far though.

And I'm still in the anyone but Randle camp.

We've got people running around this forum posting nonsense as if Noah Vonleh has the BBIQ and passing ability of Bismack Biyombo.

His perceived value would not be where its at, if that were even remotely true.

Draft him and Gordon. The Mayor and Commissioner Gordon 2014.

Randle is the better rebounder.
 
He is a bad pick because he is passive and can't put all his skills together on the court. He is a practice player, not someone who dominates when the lights are on.
