What's new

Comcast

I've watched about 1.5 Jazz games this year. That's all the live sports I've watched except when it's on the TV at work in the breakroom.

I might give up the Jazz in order to cut the cable. I have 300 gigs of data before even getting a warning, and could get 400 for another $20. That's more than enough to power Netflix (free through T-Mobile), Amazon, youtube, XBox live, wife's work, etc. on my TV's and computers.

The Next Jazz game, google "NBA Reddit Streams." You'll get hd links with only 1 or 2 ad overlays every time.

AT&T needs to get on the streaming bandwagon... piracy is only going to continue to get worse until these companies realize that all we want is an easy solution that doesn't involve the cable monopoly. If just Sling or DIRECTV NOW or YouTube gets the rights, I bet the piracy of Jazz games drops in half.

Or if they would drop blackouts on league pass I would just pay for it. But if I have to get around that with vpns and other stuff I might as well pirate it or what I am doing VPN from the cheapest country they offer.

The NBA is losing so much money by trying to do things the old fashion way. Trying to force people to go to games live or get cable is silly.

Fortunately pirating poses little to no threat to the person doing it. Only to those providing the pirated streams.

I've used them plenty but never found one that's anywhere close to true HD quality for most of the game.

I've argued for years that they're losing money based on advertising value. I haven't watched a game live all year. I DVR them and watch when I can, which means no commercials. What is the value to the advertisers when I do that? Nothing. If they sold a service that didn't black out local markets then how much more could they charge advertisers than networks currently are if they could deny us from fast forwarding through commercials?

I'm not judging anyone, but I don't steal, and that includes intellectual property.
The funny thing is, I'm halfway in on an NBA League Pass account with my brother. The streams from league pass, in my experience, are bad quality and laggy. I do not feel immoral at all watching streams from reddit.

It's funny. Many people have access to the games but need/desire to consume them in a different manner and have to go to illegal means to do so. Music figured this out (mostly) since the 90s. Video will too.

Netflix already has been for a long while, and the telephone companies are starting to really pound comcast into the dirt. The problem will be when the old monopolies and duopolies are replaced by the new ones that will quickly take up the same tactics that comcast and AT&T are famous for. I can easily see netflix charging $300/yr for NBA league pass and offering their other services as a bonus, introductory offer for 12 months.
