Conspiracy Theory Corner

Not sure where to put this, but should we look in to getting Andrew Nembhard?

He just had a good game for Canada in the Olympics and had a couple of really good games in the playoffs when Haliburton was hurt. He might be at the intersection of gettable and about to level up.

People in Indiana love him, but they are going to run in to a money crunch eventually and he might not be a great fit next to Haliburton.

He signed an extension

The “reports” have been dubious, but it still makes sense. What doesn’t make sense is NOP going into the year with Theis as their only real center ready to play. I’m fully expecting a deal with either POR or UTA.

The West is viscous. I don’t think NOP has time to play around and wait until the middle of the season to go and get a center. They could fall out of playoff contention.

These NOP guys start discussing Ingram to UTA trades at around the 24 mark. Start at the 19 minute mark if you want to hear some outsider Lauri talk, but it might be triggering for some.

Summary (Paraphrasing stuff)

Would you do Collins+Kessler for Ingram with no picks

- No picks makes it tough, very difficult decision. NOP is desperate for size. A CLE pick would likely do it.
- Skepticism about running smaller unit in the meantime
- Skepticism that better deal will be available for Ingram before deadline
- Concept of waiting brought up, they don't love it
- Watching the tax line is important
- Moving CJ to POR a possible option that could make sense....but that would mean Ingram walks (not enough money)
- Resigning BI in general tough bc of tax reasons. Might have to dump CJ somewhere (mentions giving pick to WAS in Brogdon swap)
- One of the scrubb bigs would likely go back to UTA (JRE or Karlo)
- Would make sense for Jazz to try to move Clarkson for a big afterwards
- Is something going to happen? 2/3 say predict that something will happen
- They need a C that grabs rebounds because Zion's rebounding is week
- Priority is on a big that does big things
- Which Jazz C would start and which would finish more often? Mixed feelings, but 2/3 seem to be leaning towards Collins.
- Collins 3 point shooting is actually pretty similar to Ingram, could be a special offense with DJ-Herb-Trey-Zion-Collins

I wonder if Danny would have the balls to ask the Pelicans for a draft pick(s) in a Collins/Walker for Ingram trade

Listened to this today... glad you posted a summary cuz I think it was really fair. Shamit seems pretty smart... We've talked some on twitter and I tried to see if he heard anything real on BI to Utah or if it was just "it makes sense" stuff. He didn't answer though.

I actually think a BI trade is more likely than a Lauri trade... not sure if some sort of meter of measurement is needed but its at like a 1.27%

I think a BI trade aligns with both teams (attempted at least) strategy. I’m not in love with it, but I think I would do the BI for Kessler/Collins swap. It’s the riskier path imo. There’s higher downside risk with paying Ingram or Kessler improving dramatically…but I think median outcomes actually play out better for us. That swap doesn’t hurt our Lauri+tank. I think Kessler+Collins win us more regular season games. The more talent you have condensed in less players the better…but I also wonder if the FO would try to scramble to fill out the roster and try for the play in (I’m not a fan of that).

Kessler could be in for a big year and maybe even big career…I’m still not sure if it happens here. Just doesn’t seem to be the type of big Hardy wants. I think Hardy wants versatility and skill out of his big instead of a traditional roll/cut + drop big. But he was still very good in his rookie year so idk.

One way or another I think something happens with NOP. The “it just makes sense meter” is really high on this one.
