D-Will and AK-47 back?

So hypothermically speaking, if salary was not a concern, say all nba players were paid an equal portion of league revenue for as long as a team wants them, which current jazzman would get the Newark Nets to trade Deron to utah?

If that was the case, it would probably would have to be Hayward, Favors, Exum or Kanter. On an equal split salary, DWill would be perfect for teams hoping to challenge for the title. As a 6th or 7th man he could be a real differnce maker in 2nd units.

Gosh we could get boozer from LAL cheap and then Mathews, Milsap and Boom B. Are all FA this offseason!!!!

Fire, DOL bring back Scotty Layden. send Quin packing and give Ol' Jerry the keys. Watch out west, here we come!

You betchya! Back to the past. And I bet John and Karl would still be good for 5-10 minutes per night. Guess Horny is out though with his coaching gig.

Give it up folks and move on.

I'm in the DWill camp and would love to have him back. The contract isn't that bad now that there's only 2 years remaining after this season and there's no pressing signings going forward that would really hamstring us (Kanter eh). I don't see how it's even financially possible though, how can we possibly get close to matching salaries? We obviously wouldn't include Hayward or Favors and no one else on the team makes more than 6 mil.

Yes Hedda, I believe Brooklyn would have to waive a few players to make it work. Not sure of the timeline, but at some point they have to have roster space for the players acquired. They're at 15, IINM. So making a 1 for 5 trade isn't possible without other roster moves. GVC probably knows this, but I think the roster space has to be available at the time the trade is made. You can waive incoming players, but I think that applies only after you've made the deal.

BTW, Nets have put DWill, Johnson and Lopez on the market looking to get pieces back to help them win. Kind of hilarious. Why would a team acquire any of those overpaid players AND give back anyone of value? They aren't players you build around (age/injuries) and they are way too expensive for a contender to acquire. There's almost a ZERO chance any of those players get dealt during the season.

Even if we COULD acquire DWill - and it might be possible financially this summer - why would we? Jazz will have 20M+ in cap space. They have a few options:
1. Make Kanter a qualifying offer ($7.5M) and negotiate a 4 yr contract - or match an offer if one arises, AND
1a. Go after a quality FA like Matthews, Carroll, etc.
2. Or don't match for Kanter and go after two FA's.

3. Or in your scenario, trade for Deron. You could get him, I believe, by trading Booker and Trey. Extend the QO offer to Kanter and all cap space is gone. Or don't offer Kanter and find a FA in the $8M range.

Do we contend with DWill on the roster in the next two years? Might make the playoffs, but we don't contend. I'd rather just miss again or get a FA who is still young enough to be an integral part of the team in the future. If DWill wants to come back, offer him the MLE in 3 years as a FA. He can back up Exum at that point.

I would be so happy replacing Burke with Deron. Not sure how much Deron's contract handicaps our future though.

At this point in the season (with all these losses piled up so high that a serious run at respectability is difficult) I don't want to acquire DWill. Let's grab another top pick at this point (the season is already 25% done). But if we can acquire him in the offseason, I'm totally keen. I don't like the systems and cultures that DWill has been a part of since leaving, and I think he would have a bit of a renaissance in Q's structure. While I don't see him play very often, when I do, I still see an assassin that can help you win close games and be a physical and smart competitor.

If he were playing at a high level if/when Exum and Burks take the next step, then we could be a good team.

... But this is all a part of a conversation that's been happening around here for a while: WHAT WOULD OUR TEAM LOOK LIKE WITH A SKILLED, PHYSICAL, 2-WAY POINT GUARD? Please get one.

76er will acquire Nets' Andrei Kirilenko, a 2020 second rounder, right to swap 2018 seconds and cash for Brandon Davies, sources tell Yahoo.

Deal expected to be finalized on Thursday. Nets likely to send a minor player back to Sixers in deal too, sources said.

Brandon Davies on waivers? He's stuck around the league longer than I thought he would. Is he worth picking up and shipping to Idaho?

Probably will be waived. He has a fully unguaranteed contract. Nets are going to save $11M in salary and taxes by trading AK and then waiving Davies. Doesn't look like he has much range (41%/23%). Probably should just pat himself on the back for even playing for a couple of years. I hate unguaranteed deals. I think at least 50% should vest once you make an opening day roster.

2020? WIll the world even be around then?

As a NBA player, Davies provides a agile 6'10" body. He doesn't have much lift and he plays with a frenetic energy. He provides some rebounding and a lot of activity on D - hedging etc. He struggle to finish around the rim and his jumper is inconsistent. I doubt he gets picked up.

No. Kirilenko will clear waivers, at the very least.

He's only making 3 million. I'm not sure you can pay him much less than that given his seniority and the CBA. Claiming him off waivers means that he HAS to come play for you, rather than waiting and HOPING he will come play for you.

Utah should have done that deal if only for the cash (which is probably enough to cover AK's waived remaining salary. Sixers may be the ultimate tankers, but they are stockpiling and getting paid for it.

Sounds like one of the Collins brothers. They each had a pretty good run. . .
