Actually, 2021 is what we want to save all our chips for. We should be stockpiling picks right now.
 
The Jazz should just pick some random year, say 2019, and just start gathering picks for that draft. End up with 7 first round picks that year. Maybe you get lucky and end up drafting a Jabari and Wiggins.

Can one of you "don't want to give up the 21 pick to get the 13" explain what's so bad about moving up 8 spots? It's 8 freaking spots.

Nobody wants the 13 spot. Not only is it an unlucky number, but this is the worst year to have the 13th pick. The worst. The only thing worse is a top 3 on this draft, which is good that we dodged the lottery bullet.
 
I would do this trade:

We trade Evans or our second round pick for Marion, their #13, and $3 million cash.

He's saying the Mavericks would pay $3 million in cash, which considering that the Mavs can find another team, is just being greedy and honestly doesn't make sense. They're also trying to CLEAR salary, so probably send them two 2nd rounders (Nets 2015 and another one later probably) then get back CROWDER, #13, Carter, and Cunningham.

Does anyone know if the Mavericks could buy out Dirk then sign a new contract (renegotiating the deal, essentially)? Dirk said he'd take less money to get guys around him.
 
Why not do it. We have to fill 90 percent of our cap space anyway. this way we could get Shroeder and the kid from Zaga who could be Darrin Collison-esk

Nope. He'll have to wait until summer to play for a million dollar bucks. That should be the biggest selling point to CP3 and Dwight taking less than the max, outside that's what is required these Miami days, and having the best owner in the business.

CP3, Dwight, and Dirk for about $40,000,000 would attract the Paul Pierces of the world.
