What's new

Damn .. Rondo

I've talked about Rondo extensively in the past, so I'll limit it here. He's a great leader, but he's impatient with work ethic. I've know Jonny since 2002 and I've never seen an any more tireless worker and relentless winner. I've seen him take exception with teammates and coaches, both. However, only on a professional level and only because of a lack of effort. I never once saw him get on anyone for a mistake, missing a shot, etc .. but dogging in a game, practice, or even the off-season and he'll be in your face. It seems our young core would be hard-working and it would therefore work, if I'm wrong, and they get lazy or complacent, it could be ugly and a terrible fit.

I assume Jonny is a nickname for Rajon. Can you explain how you know all these guys. What's your role at Kentucky? Are you a booster who has good access or do you actually have some involvement with the coaching staff?

Rondo
Burks
Hayward
Millsap
Favors

In a 2k12 world - that would certainly make for a very exciting, young, fast, running, slashing team. But in the real world, coming from a team that is a perennial Eastern conference finalist to a team that barely made the 8th seed in the West is quite a big jump. How he copes with that situation would be key.

Does he step up to the plate & become a mature, no non-sense floor leader (Nash, Parker, Paul) or does he become a disgruntle 'I didn't ask for this' type player (Iverson, Marbury, Francis)?

My sense is he would lean towards the latter.

? Are you thinking of asking PKM on a date?

So basically in a nut shell, Jefferson would be on his **** list most of the time for taking nights off on D :)

I would love to see someone that has passion and fire leading the young guys, pushing them and making them play hard. I get so tired of watching guys play that look like they're here to just collect a pay check.
Bring on Rondo.

And he is still in his prime. I don't think that Magic should be worried but everyone else should be.

Exactly. Magic has as many playoff triple-doubles as Rondo, Kidd, and Bird combined. However, Rondo is only 3 away from passing both Bird and Kidd.

Danny Ainge hit a home run with Rondo. Phoenix drafted him and Danny swooped in and took a chance on the kid.

I agree that he will help this team and that I want him here, but at what cost? Favors? Hayward and Kanter? Burks and Kanter?

I wasn't talkin about the cost, there just seems to be some people on here that think he's very overrated.

He's unique. There are games where I can hardly tell he's playing. Other games where he just blows up the box score.

Yesterday was one of those games where I could hardly tell he was playing (prior to those 2 long bombs he hit after Pierce fouled out). And honestly, from what I've seen out of Boston this year, I'm not too impressed with Rondo.

He's unique... And is Boston's #2 best player now. But he's the type of guy that improves an already good/great team.

He's not the "take over the game" type PG that most elites are. Even Nash can take over games (scoring) when he has to. Even Stockton took over scoring many times. I'm not so certain that his lack of a jumper and poor FT % enables him to take over games scoring-wise. I also question his ability to create without KG's illegal screens. Seriously folks, KG would foul out in the 1st quarter if the refs called him for just half of those illegal screens he commits.

We'll soon see what Rondo has. Boston will need Rondo to take over games (scoring) if they hope to beat Miami.
