Seems a little odd, I thought he was done with the NBA, could you guys see him coming back and replacing KOC? How many years does KOC have? He's looking pretty old.

After I complete a fellowship in sports psychiatry, it will be I replacing KOC,so I'd rule out Checketts. Also, isn't there bad blood between him and the Millers? I really don't know but it sounds vaguely familiar. Maybe it was the Knicks.

LOL @ The Pistons.

I can't think of a viler sack of dump than Checketts. He makes ol' Greg look like the poster-boy for "Mature Businessman".

Checketts and the Millers definitely have bad blood between them. I remember when checketts was trying to get the Real Salt Lake soccer Arena built and he was trying to get a similar deal the millers got to build the delta center from the state, Larry had some choice words in the media for checketts.

Checketts and Larry's differences go back far beyond the Real Salt Lake soccer issues - and that played a large role in Checketts' initial decision to leave the Jazz for the NBA league office in the late-80's.

Checketts' claim to Jazz fame wasn't for drafting Stock or Karl but for (along with Frank Layden) providing stability to the franchise in the early 80's (helping them actually make money), and for "recruiting" Larry Miller to purchase his first half of the team.

Scott Layden, which makes his tenure at NY all the more fascinating.

Wasn't Checketts in New York with Layden the Younger?

Chekettes seems like he's basketball Midas, everything he touches turns to gold. But if any town can soil a solid career, it's Detroit

I met checketts on my mission while he was pres of the knicks. We sat around and talked ball for a bit he liked Andy toolson. I really liked him he was the mission leader in his ward. My opinion to his claim to fame is he over saw the baptism of the heigls. Yep that is right kathrine heigl.

Yes, Larry H. felt that Checketts stabbed him in the back by going to New York. And Mr. Miller tried his best to block Checketts getting back into any kind of sports in Utah. Checketts will never be a part of a Miller-run business.

Quick tangent:
Larry was also alot more hot-headed and impulsive during his early days as Jazz owner, while Checketts was more patient. I read a story about a time Larry was so ticked off after a bad Jazz road trip, that he called up Checketts after the game and told him to go meet the plane and fire Layden as soon as he stepped off, and that Larry would take over as head coach himself. Thankfully Checketts refused, Larry calmed down and that fiasco never occured.

Checketts was a key guy in getting the Jazz viable and stable in Utah. He left because he wanted Miller to give him some ownership and Larry would not do it. With the Real Salt Lake thing, Checketts threw Larry under the bus and accused him in a public forum of using his influence to block the Real Salt Lake plan for a stadium. It was very much a sucker punch the way Chedketts did it. Larry then passionately denied having anything to do with it. Dave seems to thrive on power and public spotlight. I used to really like him but when the public throwing under the bus of Larry cured me.

I guess this would explain how his son (Spence) was getting information on draft day that the Jazz were trying to work a deal with Detroit to move up.
