David Locke Podcast Notes

good point.

I think Alec is on the bubble and would not be surprised to see him moved. They may want to display him to get value. I can see him potentially having higher value in a different system.

I dont think Ingles will play ahead of Burks simply because Burks is just too talented to ever really play Ingles ahead of him. If Ingles was better significantly better on defense I could see it, but he isn't.

I have Burks rated a 72, and Ingles rated 61.

I always thought Burks would eventually "get it", but think that train has left the station. Last year he was supposed to be fully healed from his shoulder and do great things. We know what happened, same ole Burks, then he got injured again. If the Jazz like Ingles over him, fine, they watch them every day and know what works. At that point though they just need to trade him. He has some value now. There is some GM that is going to look at that athleticism, 3 pt %, contract, and like that. Do not bury him behind Ingles, a fringe NBA player, the whole year. That would be criminal.

I was thinking of starting a new thread for this but I have been of the opinion that burks is the odd man out. I think he could flourish in the right system but I don't think this is it.

With that said he is on a very good contract so he has a lot of value. What do you think the jazz could get for him?

Personally I would love another pick next year in the 15 to 25 range.

The 2 players I have zeroed in on are

Grayson Allen - I love his shooting and is a capable defender. I see a jimmer with actual athleticism and defense.

He would be the replacement for burks off the bench and could fill in at pg in times of need.

Jaron blossomgame - he is the replacement for Joe Johnson when he leaves. He is a great shooter but also super athletic.

You don't trade Burks. If he can reach his potential and stay healthy, he could a player that puts us over the top.

I really want to agree with this.

Could be an uphill battle: mental parts of injury recovery, while having never had a full opportunity to adjust to Quin, his style of play (stickiness versus ball movement), emergence of Rod, JJ on team for 2 years. Those are some tough odds.

I'm not sure how much patience the team has to give Alec time to figure out his role/fit while mentally recovering from injuries. In win-now mode this could be tough. At the same time, if they want to market him, they want to put his skills and recovery on display. Quin has some tough rotation calls to make. His job was much easier when his bench was filled with less talent.

Ingles has become underrated. He's not a fringe NBA player fwiw. Jazz cut him and basically every team would wanna pick him up.

Burks can do a lot sexier things with the ball maybe, but his usage peecantage is significantly higher and he has never had an EFG above .500. Never has been terribly close to .500 tbh. His defense is worse than Inglessss by just about every measurable statistic. Their WS/48 were essentially identical last season. Also, Ingles showed a lot more improvement in one offseason than Burks ever has in his career. Look at Burkssss year to year stats. The minutes change, but he doesn't really improve

So yeah, maybe it's not worth it to have him handling the ball a lot when there are more efficient guys for that. Ingles could help complement things better.

Love Alec Burks, but if he's not a good fit, then you consider moving him. I'd say that he's one of the better trade chips in the NBA at the deadline this year if he's healthy.

I'd personally like to see how he does in the 6th man role with better talent on the court with him than he's had in the past. Last year, in that role, I thought he looked really good before breaking his leg. And he was doing it while playing a lot of minutes with Neto/Burke at PG, Booker and a VERY RAW Trey Lyles. This year, he'll have a starting caliber, defensive minded PG (Exum or Hill - doesn't matter), JJ, Diaw and a much improved Trey Lyles. I think that he can thrive if he stays healthy.

Regardless, with his ability and his contract. . . there is value.

It's laughable to say Ingles > Burks. Isn't Alec the offensive player we want Dante to become - namely a guy who can hit the 3 or can penetrate and break down the defense? Even if he misses at the rim, he draws the defense and gives Rudy a chance at the rebound and put back.
