What's new

David Stockton

How else would you describe someone personally getting 4 stops in a row and scoring or assisting 3 possessions in a row and across a 8 minutes was the main factor in getting the lead back after being down 10 when he checked in?

He took the game over for a brief period. I just hope he does that more and more consistently. He has a lot of low moments as well, but not that stretch in the first half.

Yes I see many players take over games in stretches. Just like Mitchell did at the end of the 4th and LA did at different points in the game.

Fair enough, I agree with your "definition", thus I concede it. It's just that "taking over offensively and defensively" sounds to me really hyperbolic if we are talking about someone who finished with 4 points, 4 assists, 2 TOs, no steals, and a plus-minus of +4. But since English is, to me, a foreign language, instead of using it in a lax and natural sense – as you guys do –, I tend to be over-analytical with it. Plus, we don't have a perfect equivalent to "to take over" in Portuguese. We use, in similar contexts, "dominar" (to dominate) or "assumir a responsabilidade" (something like "to assume the responsibility (of leading)/to assume the leadership"). Perhaps those have, in our use, somewhat "stronger" meanings than "to take over" has for you guys. So, mea culpa! :)

I watched every step with Stockton on the court with baited breath. It's impossible not to cheer for the son of one of my greatest heroes. 2 points and not much more. I will take it.

The Jazz have had two MVPs in franchise history. One is the second all-time leading scorer in the NBA and the all-time Jazz leading scorer. Tonight, David Stockton just passed the other one on the Jazz all-time scoring list.

The Warriors announcer pointed out that John and David Stockton is the all-time father-son combo leader in assists.

Lol

John and David Stockton are also the father/son franchise leader in points surpassing Corey and Jae Crowder last night.

Jae kicked his *** after the game.

So he can't be worse than someone who came in last game with the team down 10 and lead us back to the lead while taking over offensively and defensively? Wow, David must be really good.

We won't know until he plays in the same role and gets the same minutes right? Plus before last game Exum mostly sucked, so my guess was not that far fetched.

We really need to win it all so a Stockton can win a ring in Utah!
Aren’t John, Karl and Jerry all still “team ambassadors” - or something like that? When Utah wins a championship, those three get rings - even if it’s the that fans have to spearhead the cost/effort to make it happen.

As I saw David play a few minutes last night, I wondered if he could outplay his dad one-on-one nowadays. Of course John is a lot weaker and slower nowadays, but David looked physically weak and not particularly quick and John is though as nails.

But his two free throws were things of beauty. The net barely moved on either one.

John foolishly married for love, and dun goofed his warrior lineage. If he would've taken example from Lavar we could have had three Johnellos coming through the Utah shute.

We will know for sure in a few weeks when the Jazz grab the most improbably NBA Finals victory of all time.
