Deal reached with Iran on Nuclear program

So basic explanation is, "We are more powerful than you so we have the right to dictate you to do this, or do that." Not better than a typical primary school bully.

Almost every country on this earth wants to have an edge. Those who have it wish to keep it and those who don't wish to get it.

You ain't gotta convince me at all mang. I'm all for getting nuclear energy from thorium for everyone. Have the UN write up a cookie cutter outline of what each country would need to get a plant rocking. Have the countries supply what they need, and open hiring people from existing countries to come in and train staff on two year contracts.

Still worried about security? Set up the program to require a higher level of security for the areas that are most likely to be an issue.

The political climate of these countries is difficult to work with, no doubt. But It's still worth the risk.

I'm a sci-fic guy. I want the whole world to have the same goal: Space.
To reach that goal, knowledge must be accessible, and must be shared. Who knows who would have a breakthrough?

I'm also not fond of any country that talks about wiping another from the map or driving them into the sea dabbling in anything nuclear.

Obviously the issue is not suppressing Iran through limiting their means of generating electricity. Obviously the concern is their supposed propensity for violence and the fear they would have no qualms in using a nuclear device in the international relations equivalent of keeping the neighbor's dog from barking.

I think there should be no international sanctions. Population control at it's most spectacular.

I remember being buttonholed by a minister in the Israeli government and lectured on Iran thirty years ago.

I also have many Iranian friends.

Iranian exiles hoping for a "change" in Iran won't like this any more than Israel will. It "legitimizes" one of the most oppressive governments on the face of the planet, and regime that has more blood on it's hand than almost any other second-tier power. . . . behind only China, Nazi Germany, the United States and China.

Our establishment class of foreign policy activists have been the cause of all that carnage.

So keep them burning diesel and natural gas for another 50 years?

IMO, if we just tack on better security, the benefit greatly outweighs the risk.

I was waiting in the part of the video where they noted that one of the primary reasons Iran hates the US: we overthrew a democratically elected government to install a repressive monarchy.

My understanding key aspects of the deal:
Uranium for bombs needs to be enriched above 90%. Iran claims to have no uranium enriched above 20% (for medical purposes) and will enrich nothing further than 3% or so (sufficient for power generation). They will also cease any work on heavy-water reactors (so no plutonium).

If there is sufficient verification in place for thise to be established, I have trouble seeing any harm from this deal.

Precisely. And as a free marketer too, that is the positive here. Iran's people should be better off. I'm for that. And any analysis of this situation that celebrates that end is probably correct. I just don't see the cause célèbre from any domestic angle. Seems like pretty ho-hum geopolitical news.
