Deron's comments on Jeremy Evans

Deron's interviews are always so much fun to listen to. But yeah, its VERY encouraging that he thinks that Evans is going to be such a beast. At the same time, its not just Deron Williams that thinks he's a freak, there were 4-5 guys who were interviewed who said something similar.

AK-lite.
Evans could have the same type of impact Millsap had in his rookie season. However, unless AK is traded, there probably aren't minutes available.

PG - Deron 34; Watson 14
SG - Raja 24; CJ 24
SG - AK 28; Hayward 14; CJ 6

The only solution would be to play AK some at PF behind Millsap until Okur returns. I don't know if that will happen, though.

Seems to me that Evans was the talk of the day amongst players. Everyone seems to think he's a freak of nature athletically speaking.

In order to prove ****, he has to get minutes, and I just don't see it happening. He had better pray for an injury to AK, Hayward, or Millsap.

Well I guess he will have to add that 20 pounds before he gets a chance to play. I think most likely he will be playing in the D-League.

On a side note, just read Bell's interview:

I had a hard time guarding C.J. the last three years.

I sincerely hope that he's just being humble...

Evans sounds a little like Carey Scurry. Scurry was a 6-7 pogo stick who rebounded like a center in college, tying Akeem Olajuwon one year.

Of course he was not the brightest light on the Salt Palace scoreboard, and when he pulled a knife on Mel Turpin, he was sent packing.

Hopefully Evans is brighter than that.

Alema Harrington?

Later in the same link, Locke talked to Kirilenko. AK said he was happy to play 2, 3, or 4. Nobody has to ask him if he has a problem with it; just tell him where to play and he's happy with it.
Given our lack of PF's behind Millsap, barring a trade, I see AK getting most of his PT at PF this year. If Evans is as bright as I'm hearing, that plus his pogo-stick qualities will get him PT at SF. Him and AK together could lead to some serious block parties on the hardwood...

Guys, Evans sounds promising but he has NO chance of playing this year. In fact, I would be disappointed if Utah was bad enough that someone as raw as Evans plays. Chalk him up to the D-League and hope he contributes in 2-3 years.

- I am really really impressed with Jeremy Evans.
- He just needs to add 20 pounds... then he will be a monster
- Oh my gosh, I have never seen anybody jump like that and jump so quick...
- He goes after the ball... it's ridiculous
- He can jump 3 times before you jump once

That has got to be a sarcastic comment .. I mean .. c'mon that's just not possible!!!

It is encouraging to see that stuff. I'm fine to see him in the D-League for awhile. Hopefully he'll learn how to play basketball down there.

And did you say the same about Millsap his first season?
Othyus Jeffers played in 14 out of a possible 22 games last season. Granted, he didn't get a lot of minutes, but there's no reason to believe Evans couldn't average the same (5 mins/per). One thing we know is that Jerry loves guys that do the dirty work. And that's Jeremy Evans; he loves to rebound and block shots. If he can shoot as well as he says he can, I think we'll be surprised at how much he plays as a rookie.

I don't think he'll play much in the D-League. If the Jazz keep 13, Okur is the inactive player until January. If the Jazz keep 14, that probably means Thompson or Nichols is the 14th guy, and the one most likely to be assigned to the D-League. Evans is going to get minutes with the Jazz, I guarantee it.

Good to hear that Evans has been playing well in the pick up games. The biggest problem is his size and strength, He got pushed under the basket on a lot of rebounds in the summer league. If he can put on the weight and still keep the quickness he could be a pretty good player. The Shot is going to have to improve from outside of 5 feet also if he is going to play the 3.

What are the rules for sending cut players down to Orem? I know they've changed it this year, does that make it so other teams can still go after said player?

Interesting. This is all I could find on the subject.
https://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/09/25/allocation-rule-change-strengthens-nba-d-league-affiliate-bond/

"Beginning this season, up to three players cut last from the roster of an NBA team before the D-League Draft will be allocated to that team's D-League affiliate provided they sign the standard D-League contract."

So in effect, the Jazz could force say, Thonmpson, Nichols and Gaines to play for the Flash if those 3 didn't make the Jazz roster, but wanted to play in the D-League. I would venture a guess that since these players have been cut, they're still free agents and could subsequently sign a contract with any NBA team that wants to give them a guaranteed deal.

And I thought Evans had no chance of making the roster. Looks like a whole lot of people on here have no idea about what they are talking about. I guarantee he will play come the season.
