Derrick Favors ceiling.

Favors is an excellent garbage guy with a knack for finding open spots for offensive put backs. He'll have good enough numbers from that and his defense alone (which will only improve). If he adds any offensive prowess whatsoever then I'll be thrilled with him.


I like and dislike the Jermain O'Neal comparison. O'Neal is one of the select few All Stars who didn't do anything for multiple years and then suddenly blew up. Favors fits that because he didn't break out his rookie year like you'd expect your typical All Star in the making to. That's not exactly the model that pans out more often than not. Then again, Favors could have had a Charlie Villanueva type rookie year only to blah thereafter.


I see 17/11/2.5 as a floor in his prime.
 
Duncan, it sounds insane but I think their games are pretty similar.

While Duncan wasn't an insane athlete coming out of college, he was well above average for a guy his size. Same thing with Favors, he doesn't have Amare's hops or Dwight's coordination, but he has more than enough to dominate with the right intangibles.

Both have a similar on court demeanor, quiet, hard working, not looking for glitz and glamour, more worried about contributing.

Duncan is such a tough comparison because he stayed in college for 4 years and perfected his fundamentals, Favors is going to have to do it in the NBA. I do think if Favors had stayed in college he would have been the consensus top pick last year, as well as this year and next, just as Duncan was while he was in college. Duncan was a 9/9 guy his freshman year, Derrick was 12/8.

Duncan's second year in the NBA he averaged 40 minutes a game and got 17 shot attempts. With a similar opportunity I could easily see Favors putting up 21/11 like Duncan did.

I know it's a very hopeful comparison, but if Favors were to reach his full ceiling, I think he could have a few seasons similar to Duncan's prime given his athletic ability and potential.

If he did this he would be averaging a 5/5...........

Anyway, physically he has no ceiling, he has the perfect nba body for a big. The only limiter he has would be mental, and it looks like that's coming around.
 
Ok, I knew at the time I posted initially that he was being sarcastic. FYI whenever i have a long string of .......... after a line, I am also being sarcastic, and likely laughing at the poster. (edit: lauging with in a good way)

Well that clears everything up. Thank you. I'll store this little tidbit in my brain section titled "every single writing habit of every single poster on the internet". From this day forward, I can assure you that not only will I always pick up on your sarcasm, but I'll promptly correct those who don't....................
