Desnews is singing Raja's praises

Going 0-3, while your opposite number goes 4-4 in 17 minutes of play, makes a HUGE difference. The Jazz can't afford to be fleeced that badly at any position. There are plenty of scrubs who can "play hard". Raja is done. Let Burks play.

Who went 4-4 while Bell was gaurding him?

He's taking four shots a game; if he makes 1, he's shooting 25%; if he makes 2, he's shooting 50%. Difference per game: 2 points.

Now, he may not be playing very good defense (I haven't been able to watch enough to judge). However, he's correct that his shooting percentage is not having a major effect.

I disagree. The fact that he's taking so few shots and hitting so few of them means he's a non-threat. Therefore teams are backing/will back off him and cover the other players that much more. Call it the reverse-Korver effect. So his lack of shooting ability is going to seriously affect the rest of the offense.

Bell isn't that terrible of a shooter that people will just purposely leave him open behind the arc. He is a career 40% from deep, people still respect his shot.

Precisely.

Bell is a total turd.

He's not as dissed as Brewer (how many are?), but Bell has done squat in the last two years. Add that he's scared to shoot, has publicly said he's not interested in taking or making shots, can't get to the cup, can't handle the ball, and it's hard to imagine less of a threat to guard.

Has there ever been an NBA veteran that was scared to shoot? Even Rodman occasionally jacked them up. As for saying he's not interested in taking shots, that's probably a good attitude for the 5th option on offense.

When he takes a shot and misses because he doesn't think making it is important it doesn't just cost the Jazz 2 points. Basketball is a rhythm game. Having a guy on the floor that says his performance doesn't matter means someone is on the floor who shouldn't be there. I bet Burks and Hayward are concerned about making every shot they put up. To them it matters if it goes in or not. To me it matters if it goes in or not. Anyone who is putting up even one shot a game who doesn't think it matters if it goes in or not is taking up space that someone else should be filling.

I'm guessing you didn't watch that game.

I missed the early parts of both halves, unfortunately. Did Bell play off Ginobili? Duck under screens? Stand flat-footed? Are there specific criticisms you have of his defense? "Bell sucks" is not specific.

I think you overreacting to Raja's ability to recognize reality. Doesn't mean he doesn't try to make the shots he takes. He is just saying that those shots he takes probably have the least overall effect on the game as any shot in the game has, because he has the smallest role. He accepts that he has a small role and understands that he is a placeholder.

The reality is Raja is making 29% of his shots and not helping the team win. He sucks. He then goes on to make statements about how unimportant his role is. I respect his ability to recognize reality. I just wish he'd act on it and retire.

He's not even making 29% of his shots. His FG% is 26%. His 3-pt FG% is 11%. He's averaging 2.2 points and a rebound. Oh, and 2 PFs. IN 20 MPG!

Already repped you today. Damn.

Wow. Spinmaster Flex.

I'm not a proponent of chucking, but Bell hardly even wants to touch the ball out there. The reality is the defense will figure this out and play 5 guys on the Jazz's 4 on offense. You can get away with a plainly poor offensive option if it's a 5 (with other good offensive options), you cannot get away with that with a purely perimeter player (on a team with 0 viable offensive options that also know how to play on a team) who doesn't even have the legs to do the one thing he's supposed to be good at (defense).

Bell does suck, but not my point at all. This game wasn't a case of doing everything you can, but the shots go in. This was more of a case of leaving guys wide open, time after time, over and over, despite the fact that they keep draining threes. And I'm not just blaming Bell.

What pisses me off about Corbin's comments is the nonsense about Bell's intangibles. He expects us to believe that even though every conceivable stat shows he's not even an NBA player, and although we can see how horrible he is on both ends with our own eyes, there is something magical about him that justifies his minutes. If someone can come up with a way to measure Bell's intangibles, they should be in the running for a Noble prize.
