Does Lauri Get Dealt Before The Season Starts?

Currently the situation is GS offering Moody+1st picks and swaps+seconds according to what Shams said. He says we want all that plus Podz, JK. So that is the middle ground compromise if we really want to make a deal with them. DA might just be like "this is the price... we don't compromise" though. If they added Podz to the package I think that is when DA has a meeting to really decide what to do.

I think all the picks from GSW is somewhat comparable to the picks the Nets got for Bridges. Two less firsts, but two more super swaps. I don't know how you weigh GSW future vs NYK future, but it's somewhat similar. If Podz in the deal does not mean compromising picks, then Lauri is worth Podz+Moody more than Bridges (or something like that). I can't see that. This is what I'm talking about with us inflating Lauri's value. If we want significantly more than Bridges and that's all we'll accept, than we might as well lock all the Lauri trade threads. It simply won't happen.

This is an entirely different topic IMO. You can think DA is gods gift to negotiating, but independent of that there is a deal you are willing to take for Lauri and that's what is important It may be that DA's negotiating gets us to that level, beyond it, or even short of it (which has also happened). I'm saying that if the negotiations end up with Moody + all the picks, that is a deal I would take.

They got NY picks and the Milwaukee pick NY owns. I would value super swaps but Ken Clayton and Andy Larsen were throwing some cold water on how valuable they see it from an analytics perspective. So I could see NBA personnel thinking the NY pick package is better by a decent margin. Like I would guess it would be seen as 125% of Bridges value depending on how Podz is viewed though it could be 150%. I think Lauri with one less year still might be more valuable than Bridges with 2 years because he's a better player and likely stays if his acquirer pays him. IDK there are some fluid parts but I do understand using the comp.

I don't think he's god's gift to negotiating. Being super rigid is not always good. I just know he is very patient and not likely to move too far from "his price". I think the difference here with Lauri from Don and Rudy is that he is more likely than not to keep Lauri and so an acquirer will need to move higher. GS also might have a hard stance of "no Podz". Dunleavy is new so not sure what he will be like.

Some fans are just getting greedy at this point. If we can get Moody along with 3 1sts and 2 or 3 swaps then you do that deal all day.
 
The deal needs to be Podz + Moody + all the picks (they can keep their) I don’t really care about those and neither does DA. If that’s the concession that’s fine.
 
I’ve dialed this in to:

-Podz
-‘25/‘27/‘29 super swaps
-‘26/‘28/‘30 picks (‘30 is protected 21-30 and 1-3, then top-3 protected in ‘31 else their ‘31 2nd)
-Random 2nd rounder (unencumbered)

(I’ve added protections to ‘30, taken out the ‘31 swap, and taken out Moody, but added a 2nd to rebalance a smidge)

(But yes, his lateral footspeed defensively isn’t great, he takes risks [sometimes a hallmark of a star], his standing reach isn’t great and/or his athleticism isn’t great [despite his very numbers; look up the controversy on his reach/vert])

We don't have to get into these percentages too much...but if we're talking an extra 20-65% (or whatever) of something that is already very large, you can see how that become a crazy amount. I also think that while it may be obvious to us that Lauri is better than Bridges, is that true around the league? In addition to having another year on his deal + extreme certainty he will re-sign, I think Bridges is overrated AF around the league.

You're absolutely right about being rigid not always being good. I actually think the Lakers and Jazz both suffered from being too rigid when those franchises really could have helped each other more than they did. Of course DA will ask for everything and be patient....but once we start approaching Aug 6th things will get interesting. Even though I'm more pessimistic about our ability to win next season w/Lauri, I'm not in love with keeping the roster as is. If we have trades for Sexton/Kessler cooking, that would be another thing. But right now I would prioritize have clear direction (and lotto balls) over making sure we get every last drop of value out of Lauri.

This is contingent on how much you like the option of going into the season with Lauri. Me personally, I'm not desperate to trade him. But I don't love the tank+Lauri option enough to say that I would be greedy and pass over fair offers.
