One thing about trading for Kuminga, it is possible he is actually really good and he takes a substantial 4th year leap and you are kind of too good to really tank tank and end up in a similar 6-10 range still
I don’t think he’s that guy. I think he’s a dude that helps a mid team, but he’s not a floor-raiser (he’s not a ball handler and doesn’t use a bunch of possessions) and not much of a ceiling raiser (he’s not a glue guy) either.

I'm beginning to think some folks are vastly overestimating Lauri's worth w/o an extension.

So yeah, looking like he's not getting dealt before next draft.

I think this will end up getting done pretty close to August 6th. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Kuminga + Moody + 3 firsts + 2 swaps or something like that.

Their concessions would be holding onto their 2025 and 2031 swaps plus Podz but we get Kuminga and everything else.

I understand some of the question marks about Kuminga and wouldn't mind if we sent him elsewhere for more draft compensation....but I also feel like the Jazz would be an ideal situation to give Kuminga a chance at stardom. The chances of Kuminga being really good are far greater than a random pick IMO. So much of our roster is on rookie contracts and will be going forward. I would like to maintain a way to keep the 31 swap (maybe replace other picks), but this is a good deal imo.

If Kuminga ends up too good and ruins our tank....oh how horrible that would be. We can't be so afraid of the Kuminga anti-tank that we sit pat with Lauri. If we're really that afraid, we can probably send him elsewhere but I am open to the idea of having him and giving him a chance. Lauri f'ed up our tank, but I do not regret getting him. Let Kuminga play for his next contract and see how it goes. Even if he ends up walking I think I'd come away with that saying we took a good shot. Draft picks miss all the time, it should be acceptable to take on some risk with actual players.

Even if he takes a substantial leap I don't think the team around him would be good enough to fall out of the top 5. I love the potential of our young guys but they will be super inconsistent which will work in our favor. We get to enjoy the excitement of seeing the upside but it's followed by the growing pains that keep us in that bottom 5.

Any quality role player who exist on teams who dont want to win. Those trades might not happen now, but at the deadline? Yeesh. You might be able to get some bargains.
Let’s make this less ambiguous: who could realistically end up on the market as useful as Lauri Markkanen at the deadline (who, by the way, will probably be available at the deadline too)?

Yeah, the Jazz wont be a bottom 5 team with Kuminga if the only subtraction is Lauri (without a noticeable level of ****ery throughout the season), especially if you are also adding Moody, another guy who could take a substantial leap.

I'm not worried. Even with Lauri I think we are in that bottom 5. Without him we are for sure bottom 5.

Simply saying this is the price to acquire him. The Jazz’s price calculation is that they’re losing Lauri on a longterm deal because he will sign an extension (that only the Jazz can offer and he, by all acounts, likes it here). If you want him you have to come get him.

But yeah, I don’t think anyone pays the price before getting locked in, it then just complicates the later trade proposals. I’m theoretically into keeping him (but it’s somewhat contingent on a bunch of things happening that probably won’t).

Entirely depends on the rotation. If they are playing a 9-10 tight rotation of their best players, they arent a bottom 5 team

Only if they make other moves and/or get real slimy from the jump. I think Kessler is the nexus of fetching decent value while blowing a crater in the defense.
