The most likely scenario, based on reporting, is that Lauri signs the extension on Wednesday. However, if that has already been agreed to then it could have already been announced.

The fact that the extension hasn't been announced yet could mean nothing, but there are two other possibilities:

1) The Jazz are waiting to agree to the extension in order to wait out the best possible trade proposal
2) They are still negotiating the extension. Most likely around total contract value.

If they are really still negotiating the extension then I do wonder how long this could drag on. I'm sure they both want to get something done before camp starts, but I'm not sure there is any pressure to get something done before then.
I think numbers are basically agreed upon. I know he is eligible this week for the extension but i don't think they are prohibited from talking about it. We have other business to do potentially once this is wrapped up so I'm sure we'd like to have it done.

They were allowed to start negotiating with him the day after the finals ended. They could have announced the extension then. It wouldn't have been official until now, but tons of stuff gets negotiated and announced way before it actually happens. I do think the Jazz have been interested in fielding calls to get more information on his trade value. I hope that we aren't quibbling too much over value, but I do think that's a real possibility since there are several different ways the deal could get done.

I agree that it likely will and personally hope that the deal gets done quickly this week so that we can all move on.

DA may want to keep the market frozen due to a move he wants to make after Lauri signs. This would also explain the holdup on our other contracts.

Or then DA is bluffing and would rather see the trade go down now.

Or then DA just enjoys bullying the markets.

I think keeping it open until Wednesday or agreeing in secret is smart. I think the fielding of offers actually ended weeks ago but GS still thinks they can make a play. I think we know they either don't have enough or won't give enough and had some convos with other teams and likely know what could be on the table if Lauri extends and is traded later (this season or most likely next offseason). I think we'd see some "Lauri kinda pissed" type of reports from his camp if they weren't on or very close to the same page.

I neglected to mention parts 1 and 3 in my post and I think they are relevant. They may be up to something or they also may like messing with people.

We've had all summer to negotiate. I'm a little surprised we haven't already agreed to something.

There's probably two offers on the table, one if he signs on Tuesday and one if he signs any other date. They wouldnt be announcing an agreement because he probably isnt going to agree to anything until he actually signs. Im sure when they actually sit down and iron it out, there are probably some minor details (incentive structures) they will negotiate on then get it done within a day or two.

There is pressure on the Jazz to get it done within a reasonable time frame. I doubt all the free agents/rookies we want to sign like not having their contracts not be official. They also might be on someone like Okoro, or some other free agents.

So far what we've heard from Lauri's camp is: He loves Utah, his family loves Utah, he does not want to get traded mid season so he doesn't want to sign the R&E until the 7th.

The Jazz have some leverage since I'm sure Lauri wants to secure his bag and make more money now vs risk what's available in the summer.

On the other hand the Jazz have some pressure since they can't go in to the season without Lauri extended, he's more valuable to them, even if they have to overpay to get the extension done.

I guess we'll never know what GSW actually offered and Lauri may have told GSW to F off anyways, but if the deal Shams reported was on the table....I wonder how we'll look back on that. So many here were desperate to tank but also wanted the sun and the moon in order to move on from Lauri and truly tank.

Right... both parties have some motivation not to eff around and find out. So i think it should be fairly simple to iron out. One thing to watch is an Okoro offer sheet. This isn't an original idea but they could wait until tomorrow to present an offer sheet to Okoro... then they would know this week if it was matched. Might determine the structure but not total dollars of the Lauri extension.
