What's new

That's what I thought when I heard it. It just seemed like he was gushing over Byce Cotton and Dante and then was then was way less excited about said Trey.

Locks podcast does a breakdown of the Lindsey interview. Lock believes the jazz have identified their strength as coaching young talent. They are reluctant to bring in old veterans because it goes away from their coaches strengths.

Incidentally, listen to the lock podcast, he thinks the organization decided in the preseason to trade Kanter. They kept him starting and playing hoping to improve his value. The early season offers for Kanter were a couple of second round picks. Locke thought it was a credit for Lindsey to snatch all the assets he did for Kanter.

Also, Snyder did a great job at marketing for Kanter, always praising hom for great contribution even though many others are rough on him for playing out of a decent team basketball awareness level.

The few takeaways I think I took from the interview:

- Tomic is likely coming over. Mentioned Quin knew we had his rights before taking the job and that he spent some time coaching in those leagues and is familiar with the players. He knew Joe before we signed him and likely was a big part of that decision.

-Neto ain't coming over this year.

Reading between the lines, I came away with those two things as well.

Most important part of the interview right here. What he was able to do to trade for Trey and still get Rudy, makes me believe he means it and just might find a way to get Winslow/Hezonja or at the least Johnson.

This would be my preference with the pick... but it takes two to tango of course. If you can "overpay" and get a shot at a guy that could be an all star or a very good starter this is the cheapest (in dollars and assets) way to add great talent. Obviously there is risk of missing out, but if we get guys that have talent and desire our current staff can help smooth out the edges and put these guys in a position to succeed.

Last two drafts have been excellent. So that makes me wonder what magic DL is working this year for draft day.

Does it sound like we are really wanting him to come over and he also wants to come over or just that we would like him too?

There is clearly a very obvious interest from our side and he didn't hedge it with he may not want to come... Just said we are trying to respect what he is doing with FCB right now.

DL first said that out of respect for what Tomic's team is currently doing in the European championships he (DL) wouldn't go into any details about the Jazz's interest in Tomic. But then later DL admitted that the Jazz were impressed with him, had a lot of interest, and that Snyder was especially aware of the Jazz's rights to Tomic when he (Snyder) took the Jazz job. And DL specifically said that in the past it hadn't made sense to bring Tomic over because of the logjam in the bigs, but now there's no logjam so the timing is much better now.

Reading in between the lines, it seems pretty clear that the Jazz want to bring Tomic over and are currently in negotiations with him. That of course doesn't mean that the negotiations will be successful. But I'm giving it a greater than 50% chance now.

Anyone know the rules on when we can start negotiations with him? He's not an NBA player so I think they can openly talk now... probably are not in hot and heavy discussions now though out of professional courtesy.

Tomic + Carroll + Stanley J/Mario/Winslow = offseason.

(edit: I'd also take Corey Joseph, but if they're high on Cotton, then this prolly aint happenin)

Only problem is you get Carroll or Johnson/Hezonja/Winslow. Already will be crowded adding one wing to the mix of Hood/Hayward/Burks.

Maybe.

But, Burks can and will play a lot of minutes at the "1". That'll free things up. Quote me on it.
