Largely agree about the course of events - we probably trade Rudy for win now pieces(we lose value on that choice), we are borderline playoff-team... we either make the play in tournament or 7-8th seed. One and out. Mitchell stages some drama to ask for a trade through Woj. We lose value on that one too.

In essence, my feeling is that the best course of action is to blow it all up NOW! But this is not going to happen like @KqWIN has explained in previous posts, because the only way it happens is if Mitchell demands a trade NOW.

It is unlikely we do it... but not impossible... maybe its a 1-5% chance. We talk about stuff in that possibility range so I am fine discussing it.

It has to be a death spiral. We are in free fall right now... I don't think it takes much to push Don to a trade request. Let Ryan sit with these trade rumors and noise for the next week or two... then maybe remind him how much louder it will get if the team sucks and as his precious AS game and trade deadline approaches. Wait until CAA gets JB a 5 year $20M contract as an assistant and then releases a presser simultaneously that says Jazz had a chance to bring him in and Donovan is super upset, unnerved, and angry.... also here's how great Donovan's stats are he is basically AI 2.0... blah blah blah.

I think it is more CAA's messaging with Don's blessing... but yeah it reflects on both. They used the press conference to get some influence or at very least get Bryant a raise (how much $$$ will NY pay to keep him?). Its also the groundwork for a trade request... paraphrasing the Woj article "Quin was a big reason he signed his extension in the first place... now he's gone".

We always knew Donovan wouldn't stay here forever but his timeline is being pushed here... nothing will shock me this offseason... 2-3 weeks we will see who is still around.

The Dame comp is relevant. I do think part of Dame's "loyalty" currently is that he can sign a megamax extension he can't get elsewhere. I think he signs that and they head to a mutual breakup sometime in the next 12 months. I think he has been more loyal than anyone could expect but I think the last 12 months or so his loyalty has been partly financially motivated. I don't blame him btw. He deserves his money and its fair for him to ask out.

Donovan doesn't have that cash dangling over his head so his situation is more tenuous. I think if the basketball or org in NY was in a better spot he'd be asking out now... I think he wants to see how that all plays out and is likely somewhat motivated by being the face of the AS game this year.

None of this stuff helps our situation which you noted thoroughly. We are letting people dictate this decision that don't care about the Jazz at all. Ryan is the nerdy pawn in the CAA chess match.

I agree with this. If he's Lebron or KD or even James Harden in his prime, then maybe you put up with it. But if he's Kyrie, then you don't.

My view is that I don't care what Donovan's attitude is towards Utah or playing here. He isn't good enough to build a team around. So priority #1 has to be finding a player who is that guy. If that means moving Donovan, then great.

Yeah, the Don haters on here don’t really understand that. They let their personal feelings cloud their judgement. It is sad really.

I don’t hate him per say. He just can’t be our #1 option. Doesn’t get to the line nearly enough, not a great finisher, and has a tendency to shoot the jazz out of a close game. Not a great playmaker, doesn’t make the right play gets himself into impossible situations and doesn’t know how to trust his teammates.

We can’t and will never win a chip with him as our featured player. These things will only get worse if the jazz trade Gobert. And if Mitchell doesn’t ask out before the season starts, he will at the deadline or end of next season when he realizes it was better for him with Gobert.
