Yeah it's incredibly stupid for him to admit that he didn't act on the recommendation of the report. That was obviously the 'game plan' set out by his team, but Trump just can't help himself:

"I was going to fire Comey," Trump said in an interview with NBC. The White House and Vice President Mike Pence have said the president acted on the recommendation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

"Regardless of recommendation I was going to fire Comey," Trump said.

Talk about "shooting oneself in the foot".... or "putting one's foot in the mouth".... whichever idiom you prefer, they both seems to work perfectly in this case.

You're right, the gap between the two sides is increasing. But that's not because one side is becoming more liberal. Quite the opposite. The democrats have endorsed platforms that used to be promoted by republicans in the 60s and 70s. Meanwhile, the GOP has become an outlier party. It has become so radical that it is incapable of modern-day government. It rejects moderation, scientific thought, facts, and traditional institutions and processes. Hell, just look at their economic, tax, and health care reform. It does nothing but hurt most workers, drive up the deficits, damage safety nets, and enrich a handful. That's not how modern-day democracies are supposed to work.

Just look at how a centrist like President obama was painted by the GOP. Look at how his presidency was demonized. The GOP shut down the government and lowered our nation's credit ratings to purposely hurt his presidency. Obamacare for hells sakes was the GOP's reform for health care. That's why they haven't been able to come up with an alternative in 7 years.

Today's GOP represents the greatest threat to democracy that the western world has seen in almost a century. Through decades now of am radio, Fox News, and the apprentice, the right has created an "us" vs "them" (urbanites vs rural, white vs black, educated vs uneducated, job creators vs welfare queens, etc) mentality that has given a "cult of personality" to Donald trump. Was he wrong when he claimed that he could gun down someone on 5th avenue and get away with it?

Today, you have blatant lying, outrageous positions, and clear obstruction of justice from Donald trump. When Nixon attempted this, the senate majority leader who was also republican said, "we needed to find out what The president knows and when he learned of it." Today's radical GOP mostly demonstrates apathy towards obscene behavior (firing the FBI director who's investigating the president) that wouldn't have been tolerated in any previous administration.

I'm not sure when or if Americans on the right are going to wake up. But most who aren't addicted to Fox News and certainly those outside of our country recognize that democracy is certainly in peril here in America. And it's mostly the fault of the GOP. It's radical agenda, it's brainwashing propaganda, and it's outrageous president.

For literally the last 36 hours Spicer, Conway, and other WH officials have claimed that Trump fired Comey because of Rosenstein's findings.

Just a few hours ago Donald admitted to Lester Holt on NBC news that he was going to fire him anyway, regardless of what Rosenstein recommended. Yet another lie from this WH administration.

Again, this type of behavior wouldn't have been tolerated at any point in our nation's history. Why is the right so content now? They wouldn't let Hillary or Obama get away with this. Why now? For someone who is supposedly innocent, Trump acts as guilty as possible.

Where there's smoke there's fire. There's way too much smoke here. Look at how Donald refuses to release his tax returns, becomes so defensive over Russia, has so many cabinet members who have lied about improper relations with Russia, and fires anyone who investigates it. Literally not a week goes by where he doesn't say or do something that raises suspicion.

Even if he isn't impeached, his ability to effectively promote and enforce meaningful legislation has been permanently damaged. Once the 2018 midterms occur and democrats retake the House, his ability to promote and enforce meaningful legislation will be gone. The Donald Trump experiment will be over by 2020 (if he even makes it that long).

The funny thing is, Democrats don't even have to try. The Donald is slitting his own throat everyday with his outrageous behavior. Approval rating is in the 30s and is now slipping even among Republicans.

All of the living former US Attorney Generals have said it was not Comey's job to decide whether Clinton or anyone else should be charged with any "crime", as Comey twice did in regard to Hillary. Comey usurped the role of the Justice Dept.

A new director for the FBI will need to pass the scrutiny of both political parties, and that is really all we need to do. Actually get someone in there who will not politicize the Dept.

Obama and Trump may be scrutinized for politicizing the Justice Dept. itself, and it is something the public should not accept of any President.

The fundamental problem we face in our national politics is our own level of partisanship.... the unwillingness of the Democratic Party to accept the vote/election as conforming to our Constitutional procedure.

Trump has not so far made a play to prosecute Hillary.... for many obvious criminal and conspiratorial and corrupt actions while in office as Secretary of State, nor for her illegal handling of her classified communications, which she did intending to circumvent the FOIA requirements applicable to her official communications. It would be the Justice Dept that should decide that.

But hey, if you-all wanna chase the hobgoblins of Russian influence down the Trump rabbit hole, have a fun time in that wonderland. Nothing I've heard any rumor about so far even comes close to what Ted Kennedy did during the Reagan years, or Obama's promise to be more flexible after his re-election.

This investigation is pure insanity in the context of inter-governmental communications and coordination going on regularly every day in our current context of global governance.

Comey should have been fired by Obama for overstepping his authority last July 5.

Please don't use the term "Republicans" as synonymous with "Trump supporters". I've consistently been very anti-Trump, but am still a Republican.

There's no question that Trump's prepared excuse for firing Comey was not the actual reason. As I'm sure you know, all reports agree that Trump first decided to fire Comey, and then asked the AG and deputy AG to write up some reasons why. And that's shameful.

Trump's claim that the he was following the deputy AG's recommendation to fire Comey pissed the deputy AG off so much that he nearly resigned. (https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/dep...-resigning-upset-wh-pinning/story?id=47342541.) Again, shameful act by Trump to blame the firing on Rosenstein.

To add insult to injury, Comey found out about his firing from the ticker on a TV screen. No personal notification at all. Again, shameful.

I had previously thought that there was nothing to the Russia thing... that it should be investigated, but that the investigation would not find any evidence of wrongdoing. Now I'm not so sure.

We need someone other than John McCain in the senate to call out this shameful behavior, wouldn't you agree?
