Donald is about to go through some things...

The guy arrested for hiding out to shoot Trump has enough wild stuff out there to sustain almost any narrative. We're going to see strong claims from multiple directions about his ideology, and probably theories that one side or the other conspired with him to try to bring Trump down. And mental health is probably going to come into play. To me, he looks like something of a radical-revolutionary centrist with severe mental issues and delusions of grandeur, but there's probably still plenty more to learn.

You're mixed up. The guy with severe mental issues and delusions of grandeur was the target.

I hope to see Trump lose the election as much as anyone, but this is a strong claim. Who's the puppet master here, and how did it operate? This seems to go far beyond any evidence we know of yet.

Some things about this Routh guy that we seem to know now (subject to change, of course):
  • Supported Trump (2016), Tulsi Gabbard (2020) and maybe Biden once he got the nomination, Vivek-Hayley (2024). Seems to have turned against the first two over time in some part due to Ukraine issues. Also seems to have supported Biden-Harris to some degree in 2024. Apparently registered independent but most recent primary participation was in democratic primary
  • Donated several (very small) amounts to Act Blue especially around 2020
  • Professed to be very strong supporter of Ukraine and Taiwan against Russia and China
  • Seems to have tried to recruit an army of Afghan foreign fighters in both of the two causes above. Seems to have had virtually no success at all in persuading others to join him or to have any influence with the leaders of those states. No evidence of any support by US either. At least some involved with the pro-Ukraine cause seemed to regard him as an unhinged rogue actor.
  • Has a long crime record including weapons charges. Some of the other charges are not completely clear but likely include failure to pay taxes and (construction) business related complaints. Apparently no record of any significant time served.
  • Made open invitations on Twitter during the pandemic to both Kim Jong Un and Hong Kong democracy protesters to join him in Hawaii. In the case of Kim, he seemed to think that he'd be able to persuade the American public that Kim's just a regular guy; and that this change in heart of the American public would open the way to peace between North and South Korea
  • Reached out to various singers through at least Twitter to try to persuade them to get a "We are the World" type of song for Ukraine shortly after the Russian invasion, including: Bono/U2, Dave Matthews Band, Sting, Jack Johnson, Kings of Leon, Bruno Mars
  • His son has seemed to confirm in interviews that he hated Trump, though the son also says that he can't imagine his father as violent
I'd say that these are some of the more "solid" things we seem to know about him (and some of this might prove to be incorrect). Beyond these things, it seems like we're moving much more into speculation.

Oh, I guess we can add some Hawaii political participation to the things we think we know:
  • Routh participated as a construction business in (and advocated politically for) a scheme to build small box houses for Hawaii's homeless
  • Offered to government officials to personally pay the costs to close off a controversial hiking trail that some say was overhiked and dangerous

Why does there need to be a puppet master?

Just wanted to point out that this part means nothing.
I'm registered independent. I wanted to vote on the Republican primaries but the Republican party doesn't allow independents to vote in their primary. The Democratic party does allow me to vote in their primaries though.

Exactly. Up to recently, it was a pretty common thing in Utah for Democrats to vote in Republican primaries for their "candidate of choice" because Dems are otherwise non sequitur in the state.
