Both of the usual motives: money and he doesn't like Trump, but mostly money.

Trump fired him so he has no love for Trump, and he signed a book deal which this piece was promoting. The publish date on your linked article was Oct 3, 2023. The publish date of the book was also Oct 3, 2023.

Trump has done one positive. He’s revealed to me how utterly fake and empty many American religions are. It’s been sad for me to watch many fellow Americans and LDS people who I’ve known for years, show me through their posts and actions how little they actually believe in Christianity and its teachings. I’d say at least half of every congregation is just there because it’s a social club. Not because they actually believe in being good people or believe in teachings of Christ.

And that’s if their church actually teaches of Christ. I’ve noticed increasingly over the past few years how often we teach (worship) past leaders, experiences, or politics over Christ. Speaking mostly from my own LDS example, I really don’t give a **** what some 19th century guy thought about marriage (while being married to multiple wives), or what the pioneers thought, or how tall a steeple should be. What did Christ think about telling the truth? Helping the poor?

Most religious people live a lie. Evangelicals are by far the worst. Forget about politics, I would think more religious people would speak out against Trump purely because he goes against everything they supposedly believe. Why doesn't the LDS church take a stand against this man poisoning our populace? This man who mormons overwhelmingly voted for in the last two elections. How pathetic is it that they claim to be righteous yet want this man as our leader? Guess who are by far the most anti-Trump? Yup, atheists.

That poll is ancient, however there is a new poll from that same group this is really interesting. Biden supporters are far more self-centered while Trump supporters are far more likely to prioritize a family.

Trump may have his faults but he did a far better job of raising his family than did Joe Biden, who has one son dead, the other son is a drug addict, and Joe used to shower inappropriately with his teenage daughter. According to the data, those who prioritize family are supporting Trump, and it isn't close.

If you value the way he has "raised" his family, I feel extremely sorry for yours. I also wonder what sort of trauma you have subjected your children to. I guess only time will tell the damage done.
