Donovan Mitchell All Star Weekend Thread

LOL .. it really makes me wonder what a guy has to do to impress some of you guys? I mean, he did the best he can do given his God given gifts. He isn't the tallest/fastest/most athletic, but he tries hard and did the best he could. And considering the short notice he had to work with, he really stopped just short of pulling a monkey out of his ***.

Give the guy some props... geez.

Great to see Greg Miller and even Denis' Wife there as well to give support. It really gives it that 'family' feel that I really love about the team and its ownership.

Love it.

Mitchell impressed me tonight, for sure. His first dunk got me on my feet. I was so nervous he would miss it, but threw it down in the clutch. I think the people that are saying it was a weak dunk contest are not saying that Mitchell sucked. We're saying it cause we've seen much better and had different expectations. Mitchell did great. He had nice dunks and didn't choke. It was a B dunk contest though.

*I dont think anyone they have is qualified because there isnt any rubric or criteria for scoring other than an incomplete dunk gets a 6.*

It doesn't have any criteria because it's a sports event, a show, not a discipline. If the contest were serious, they wold need to separate the dunkers in different categories, by height, weight and so on, and assign a difficulty to each dunk, and that would be boring as hell.

So yeah, without the criteria, I think being a Dunk contest champion just qualifies Dr. J as a judge in a dunk contest.

I think if you are using a scoring system to eliminate people, then you should have a better scoring system, that's all.

You dont have to have any of that extra stuff to make it a more legitimately scored and judged event.

Generally, I thought the contest was okay. Average or slightly better. Oladipo took himself out on the first dunk. DSJ got a low score on his first dunk and might've deserved better. His 360 between the legs was groundbreaking. All of Nance's dunks were decent, just the second from behind the backboard was uninspired. Mitchell covered a lot of ground, showed his ability to jump and **** it back. He finished all his dunks with power and did enough to keep the crowd into it. He basically pulled off the Vince dunk, just didn't get nearly as high as Vince did. Mitchell deserved to win overall.

Calm down about Donovan? I’ve got all the faith in the world this kid will take this team to the conference finals with Rudy in the coming years....I loved the DWill, Booze, Okur days. As an individual player Donovan came at the right time, had the right attitude, and was the perfect gift to this fanbase and organization and has had the largest affect on both this quickly in his career. Full faith in Donovan, and he will never cease to impress me.

Here’s his post dunk contest press conference

One thing that confuses me about the praise of the DSJ dunk is the whole "switching hands" thing. Has anyone done a between the legs dunk without switching hands?
