Donovan, other players considering not playing

MLK Jr said that you fight darkness with light. How the hell do you bring light against this darkness? Pointing it out? Tell people they should change? And how many in SLC agree with this garbage? Half? 25% 10% 5% 1%? Even 1% is disgusting. Maybe they whole city deserves the shame? How do you reach the kids? Where is the good examples of love in their lives?

At the temple, duh.

Can't say i'm shocked by this. I'll miss Donovan.

Honestly, it doesn't really matter if he decides to stay or not, there will always be racism around in any or every city. SLC, LA, NYC... whatever. Donovan is really loved here in Utah and I really hope he sees that beside looking and seeing all the bad things.

Wait..they fixed the mural within 24 hours..whew good news and he can have a mural in SLC. But yeah, if one wants a perfect world then SLC is not it. Maybe Mitchell wants to be somewhere where the love is stronger and doesn't want to tolerate these crimes. I wouldn't want to either. It is too much work outside of what is normally expected to help change a backward community.

Because it’s not just random. It’s also reputable NBA media and people around the league. Having more than one conversation isn’t deflecting. No you do not have to be okay with being lumped in with racists by NBA media and those surrounding the league. I am also not okay with those comments or racism. Stop pretending these things are mutually exclusive. They are not.
I have said thay it's true that every city has racists(Hi Oklahoma, Boston) and not all of the people under Mitch's insta is from Utah. It's just not wise to bring it up because in the end it's deflective.

Also who are these reputable media? Kendrick Perkins?

I honestly believe the concepts that underpin Motivational Interviewing would be fairly beneficial to begin to understand at the societal level. Not just for this but for a multitude of social ills. However, the more serious something becomes or the more personal something becomes, the more the natural inclination is to move away from any of those principles (whether they’re understood or not) and to indulge in things that more immediately help relive our own anxieties about situations, but only serve to further exacerbate problems, intended or not.

I’d strongly recommend Miller & Rollnick’s book Motivational Interviewing to anyone (not specifically related to this issue but most anything) as it’s written very generally to lay people and is fantastic for anyone who has to work with people trying to facilitate change. Educators, healthcare workers, parents, etc. Ultimately, I believe people can change, but I think our anxieties about wanting people to change and not seeing them progress the way we’d like them to ends up facilitating further entrenching them into whatever problematic beliefs or behaviors they have.

Unreal. I doubt Donnie re-signs.
See again....these murals have been defaced in Seattle, California, Florida, and many other places in the past few weeks. Sometimes I think some of you minimize what you think of Dons intelligence acting like he doesn’t know this is a nationwide issue. The community also cleaned it up and re-painted it. Maybe he’s just showing this community there’s a problem? He’s not dumb. He knows this isn’t a SLC issue.

It’s not like I’m bringing this up on the comment section. I’m bringing it up on JazzFanz, relax.

Don has made it pretty clear he is upset with Gobert. Now multiple times a day he posts bait to get negative comments. He's gone fellas.
Wonder what kind of trade we'll get for him. I'd bet it'll happen sometime after the season and before the next draft.

I feel like there's a ton of us fans at a home game cheering on the Jazz and Mitchell. We're there to support them and we want them to succeed. Of course, at the game, there are Laker fans picking fights near the concessions and yelling and trolling the Jazz players during the game. Although Jazz fans are loud with their support, these Laker fans are near impossible to ignore because they're so damn obnoxious.

Us, Jazz fans, need to get louder!

The issue isn't fans getting loud at games. Players know fans are loud and support them when they are playing. The problem is people aren't cheering this loud and supporting them when it comes to them bringing up real life issues. In fact there's a decent amount of fans who are doing the opposite and opposing players whenever they bring up issues. The "shut up and dribble" **** just doesn't work. Players are human 1st, basketball players 2nd.
This isn't a SLC issue, this isn't a Utah issue, it's a society issue. But when that issue is happening in a place where you work I could only imagine disdain of wanting to come back to that environment.

If Donovan leaves/asks for a trade in this way.....don’t expect many guys to want to play here. I don’t actually think this is what he’s doing, this issue is legitimately important to him and players all around the league are doing the same, and getting the same comments. Maybe this is sarcasm, hard to tell.

He followed it up with this:

Agreed, but people do see them as human, they just don’t see them as people they know. Players don’t care about individual fans either. They don’t care about me or you personally. Your a blob of a crowd. This isn’t a one way street. You don’t go to a restaurant to be bombarded by someone you don’t know about things other than food service. I support players speaking up, but to act like fans don’t see them as people is kind of a ridiculous notion IMO. We all do, but we, not they, see each other as individuals we know. They don’t truly care about any individual fan either, it doesn’t mean we don’t see each other as people. But no they don’t care about a fan as much as people they know or their family and neither do we. It’s just how people are. The person behind the desk at a gas station is just someone I’m buying something from if I don’t know them. Acting like there should be some special connection between us is just not going to be the case. With athletes it’s actually probably closer to a special connection than most interactions we have with people we don’t know tbh.
