Downside of Trading Jefferson-who replaces him?

On good nights Millsap, Favors and Kanter can split the minutes. On many nights I expect Kanter and/or Favors will be in foul trouble. We could play smalll or play Evans at PF with Millsap at Center. But we will need another option. And the Free Agent Center pickings are very, very slim- especially at the price are willing to pay.

Derrick Favors 5 games starting at center in 2011-12:

Utah's Record: 4-1
Min: 34.0
Pts: 15.8
Reb: 11.2
FG: 51.7%
FT: 76.6%
Double-Doubles: 4

I'm not a fan of thrusting players into a leading role before they're ready, but Favors is at the stage in his career where he needs to be given more ownership over the Jazz's fate. He needs to play with the pressure of "I need to focus 100% and bring my A-game for us to win," instead of "I need to make the most of my limited PT" knowing if the Jazz lose the responsibility will fall on Jefferson before Favors. One thing that still sticks with me is Karl Malone talking about the wakeup call he received after his rookie season when Frank Layden called him into his office and asked him how good he wanted to be, then said "Good, cause we're about to trade Adrian [Dantley]."
Now I'm not foolish enough to even begin comparing Derrick to Karl - but like A.D. - Al is in the way of Favor's and the Jazz's growth.

Obviously you'd need to add a 4th big to Favors, Kanter and Millsap - but even if that doesn't come via trade, you always see teams pick up competent 10-15 min per game guys for relative peanuts (Narz Mohammed, JJ Hickson, Gustavo Ayon, Dante Cunningham, ect).
 
Errr, so did anybody forget about Jeremy Evans?
I think Milsap + Favors with Evans + Kanter of the bench is a good duo both ways especially when we get Mo Williams as a 6th man to keep up the scoring. We have 96 mins to distribute.....I think Milap-30, Favs-30, Kanter-25, Evans-11 is a good distribution. Evans is an energy guy anyways.

Honestly, getting rid of Al is addition by subtraction on its own. The way Corbin uses him is real awful....it almost makes it so Corbin doesn't have to think of any offensive plays because Al can get a shot off every time. And because Al is central to the offense, he gets too gassed out to do defense. It's the Jimmer in college scenario....except we can't hide Al.
 
Evans does add something to this team, hes the x factor when he gets quality minutes in games. I just hate how many people on this forum low ball him when he hasn't seen quality time. Mo Williams being our sixth man, with Burks, Evans, Kanter off the bench could ring some bells. I do want Al moved, though. Murphy gives me hope too, the Rip Hamilton comparisons and him coming from a low profile school.

I'm already excited about this off season.

Well said. The sooner BA is gone the better. Turn it over to the youngin's, they give us the best chance to get somewhere.
