Eenie-Meenie's Up Close and Personal Observations of the Jazz players' shooting ability

What they're saying is Alec is a +35% 3-point shooter so what's the problem?

The problem is that it also affects his midrange game, and that he could improve his outside shooting a lot by focusing on his follow through. Imagine if he develops a good touch from the outside along with his ability to get to the hole, he'll be Michael Jordan light.

Behold! Eenie Meenie is the first person to ever see the Jazz live!!

The problem is he needs to have more confidence in his shot so that he will shoot more threes. Maybe that will come back as the season goes on but right now he chooses to drive almost every time. And i have noticed that his shots are still often flat, and how that didn't seem to match what was said in pre season.

Except, Siro, they haven't been watching the mechanics of the players like I did, apparently, or at least as closely as I did. And as Watcher said his shot is still flat. Well, I'm explaining why it's flat because I got to see him hoist up a lot of shots from outside, mostly 3's, during practice, and watched his form. You guys who do live in Utah should take a closer look yourselves and tell me what you see, and compare him with Joe. In fact, they were shooting side-by-side and b.s'g with each other so you could compare the way they shot. The contrast with their follow through was very obvious.

No, I was expecting up close and personal pics of you.

Well, ROOTS might've caught me on TV last night because I was standing up in my row jumping up and down, wearing my Jazz ballcap, and screaming at the refs and calling out encouragement to the players practically the whole game until late in the 4th quarter when the game was no longer in doubt -- I was in the lower section.

What kind of a dumb question is that? I just learned about the tickets last night and didn't think about bringing it. I could've used my cell, but it doesn't have a good camera. What can I say -- I wished now that I did bring it. But I'm thinking of coming to SLC for a game, so I'll bring it then.
TBH, the question is not quite as dumb as the answer. You should have just said, "no, I don't have a camera phone yet... at least, not a real one."

jeez, you'd think Alec's 3pt shooting %'s were bad the way people portray him around here.. Seems kinda pompous if you ask me..

He's never shot lower than 35% from 3 since a rookie when he shot 33%.. So at worst, he's mediocre..

Not everyone shoots the ball on the same trajectory.. It's not like Alec's wildly inconsistent with his shot.

Hard to be wildly inconsistent when you shoot 1 every 3 games.

Oh kind of like someone starting a thread on the player who was basically our entire offense last year asking if he is all the sudden terrible at offense and if we should be concerned?

Two words - Shot Doctor

If the Jazz want to seriously contend, they need to maximize the offensive value of ALL their players (but especially Hayward, Burks and Gobert - who all still have tons of room for improvement.) Chip Engelland has proven that he's the guy who can get that done.

It blows my mind that teams will invest $10, $20+ million per year in players, but won't spend more on quality coaches to help them develop to their full potential. Even a slight improvement across the board AND better free throws puts this team into the playoffs for sure.

They wanted Engelland Quin's first year, but couldn't lure him from San Antonio. IMO, he's the most valuable free agent that the Jazz could possibly lure to Utah this offseason. I'd do whatever I have to do to get him. Raise. Promotion. House/car/clothes. Whatever. Go get the man.

Eenie Meenie, thanks for the observations.

Despite the fact that Alec's shot tends to settle down as the season gets going, I agree that he could use a shot doctor to help him reach heights not heretofore ascended. His drives would become that much more ferocious if he required more attention on the perimeter.

Perhaps Hornacek will get s#!t-canned and we can bring him back as a shooting coach. He helped Hayward in the past.

By the way, Burks is my second favorite player on the Jazz. I'm making this critique because I want to see him reach his potential, which like I said is Michael Jordan light. That's what I said about him in his rookie year. He's got the quickness and the hops (maybe not quite to the level of Jordan), just needs to develop the shooting touch.
