Enes Kanter for Otto Porter: A Wizards Fan's Perspective

Fans are a funny lot. Kanter is worth Porter plus assets because Kanter will still be in the league in 3 years. Seriously though, Kanter would tear things up in the East. Those teams know it and one will offer him a fat paycheck.
 
Or people realize Kanter is a defensive liability with an extremely streaky jump shot and lacks the ability to get to the FT line or pass?

Only true thing you said is about the passing. Luckily for my argument, Porter doesn't either. 6.8 AST% is atrocious for a wing.

Check the other thread for links to stats on his shooting. Everyone can have an of game, but altogether, what he's done has been impressive.

Defense? Actually reliable at it when opponets are within 10 ft. In top half of Western conference big men starters at this. Problem is perimter D, which every big struggles with. Our wings/gaurds will get better, and we can also draft a perumeter defender thus year. We don't need to trade Enes for pennies.

Pretty sure Kanter is shooting something like 28% from the midrange in the last 10 games (or so, Locke posted something along those lines not too long after/before the Hornets game).

Porter is a great passer. You are blind. Keep hugging to these stats that defy the eye test.

I don't think it was the last 10 games.

His FG% is still above 50%.

Those stats I am referencing are from Basketball-reference. They have splits by month, opponent, etc. They aren't made up. he had a couple off games, but overall, his percentages remain high.

So Locke pointed out a breif shooting slump, so? Enes is still shooting .467% from 10-16 feet. 81% from the FT, and 32% from 3 (40% in December) in the year. Those are great #'s for a 6'11" 22 yr old. You just don't trade that. Especially when you factor in his per 36 has him at 18.7 PT and 9.8 rebounds, with an ORB% of 12.4 (one ofthe highest in the league). That's the makings of an incredibly special player. One that you teach how to pass.

You use the term streaky shooter a lot but I think Kanter's problem with his percentage is again rooted in his lack of experience to match up against hard opponents. He is not used to shoot clean against any shown hand. He is better than terrible in contested shots but not good enough for a player that is known for bad defense and only his offense.

Also, his mentality has been weak and he has been affected by the out-of-court factors in his basketball career. But I observe more matured and slightly angry reactions from him lately, and this mood clearly adds to his concentration and power to compete. He has a really good hand for a bigman scorer, the kind that is hard to come by. So one should be patient to get him to play the game more smart and with defense, in order to keep this talent in his hand.

It's too bad that even any Wizards fan can tell he is league bottom defender, or even if he is not, he sure looks like one during games. Enes has to do something about it, because no coach or teammate respects a player that does not defend his rim.
 
Kanter is average against his man, but really struggles with help defense. He's just too slow, and had a low bball IQ.

One of you ambitious people should find a forum for all 29 teams and try to trade Kanter in all of them. The. Come back here to detail the findings.
