You would think with all that fitness, mobility, offensive rebounding, and shooting ability Kanter would be able to get to the FT line more than 2 twice per game while take 12 FGA per game.
But he can't because he is a poor man's Al Jefferson. Make Kanter a 1st option and all those % will be below Big Al's %. (Besides the 3pt% of course)
He goes 3 x per 36. You are right that he needs to go to the line more, but let us be real:
Per 36:
Aldridge goes 4.8 times.
Dirk goes 5.3
Pau goes 4.9
Zach Rabdolph goes 5
Serge Ibaka only goes 1.8
The difference between Kanter's 3 FTA's, and these players' 5 FTA's is really only one extra call. Most of these players get more than 12 FGA, some get a lot more.
And are you honestly suggesting that all of Kanter's FGA's are created equal? There are at least 3-5 put-back attempts, a lot of times where he is not getting fouled because the opponet realizes it is too late. Despite what FGA's tell you, but by just watching the game, you can see that Kanter is the 5th, 4th, sometimes 3rd option on offense. Like Ibaka, it is hard to get to the line when plays aren't being called for you because of other players you share the floor with. If Trey shot less, Kanter would probably get to the line more.
Trey leads the team in FGA's per 36, I believe.
Yes, Kanter needs to learn how to pass. I've saidd that all along, but I am confident he'll get there.
Reality is, a non-passing big is far less of an issue than a non-passing, which Otto Porter is.
He operated as something of a point forward in Georgetown's offense, executing his team's sets to perfection, constantly reading and probing the defense, and facilitating exceptionally well from the high post. His court vision and passing ability is exceptional for a player his size, and he really sets the tone for his teammates with his unselfishness in always looking to make the right play. He makes simple extra passes to open shooters on the perimeter, finds cutters diving to the rim with perfectly timed bounce passes, and moves the ball ahead in transition decisively to get his teammates easy baskets that don't register in the boxscore as assists.
