Essential Oils - doterra

My wife and her mom are the Queens of this kind of MLM ****, and it drives me up the farking wall. I haven't been able to lay with my kids at bedtime for over a year because my wife insists on slathering them with this doterra garbage. It smells of dehydrated outhouse. I hate essential oils with the burning passion of ten billion super novae. It doesn't work. It smells like pure ****. It's expensive as all get out. It's a g'damn MLM for crying out loud.

I agree with The Thriller; save your money. (I shall now go wash my mouth out with soap.)

I live in Utah county...

We have doterra and that juice stuff here. Tahita noni, I think.

It's a rule, you must be approached by dozens of relief society women looking to make a quick buck off of you. If not, then you're deported to another county.

So I've tried Oils, juices, and scents. Some, mostly because the girl was hot. Complete waste of money man. Trust me.

And EJ Wells will typically flood you with hyperbole. But take it from me, the rational one, he ain't far off when describing these scents as outhouses. Pretty dead on actually.

Save your money, damn you, save it.

So am I supposed to save my money, my money bra, both, or what?

Oh I have one just like that, only mine is made of Benjamins.

And what is it about Utah/SLC and MLM? I've never heard of most of the stuff that you folks are always talking about.
all the stay at home moms wanting to "help contribute".

My neighbor uses these things like Candy for her kids. They don't believe in modern medicine. They rage against my family for getting antibiotics etc.... saying they are way more healthy than us. Thus far they have had 7 hospitalizations with 3 kids. All could have been avoided. Drives me crazy. She tried to give me some remedy for my boy who has ADHD. The oil would make him normal she said. My Hell, he is normal. I don't want some oil that sits on the skin to mess with him even more. He's a damn good kid, just gets a bit hyper. Sheesh

Good for your neighbors. There children will never develop autism now.

So do you also have stuff like Discovery Toys, Pampered Chef, and Avon? Or Lonaberger Baskets? Those are the ones I've heard of around here - - years ago there was also Shaklee - I guess they're still around but I haven't known anyone who sells them for 20+ years.

Do they have "parties" and stuff where they demostrate these products and try to guilt you into buying something - - and maybe even hosting a party yourself?

What about Cutco? Do you all have Cutco knives out there? It's almost a rite of passage for boys when they graduate HS to take a job selling Cutco. Fortunately my boys didn't do it since both already had jobs so I didn't have to convince my friends to be their customers. The poor young boys are always so earnest and enthusiastic when they start out - - most don't last a month. From what I hear, the company is pretty ruthless in demanding you meet their sales quotas.

Typical sexist Utah county BYU Mormon that thinks women must stay inside home cooking and cleaning for you all day. This valley is plagued by this mind frame.

Nothing wrong with MLM income it is productive, filling, and normally highest quality product.

Not trying to be a dick but why the **** would you let your wife put this **** on your children? Oy vey.

I haven't heard of all of those, but yes. Plus, I can guarantee we have some no one else has heard of yes. It's the MLM capital of the galaxy.

Yes, it does seem to be. Still not quite sure why that is though. We have plenty around here beyond what I mentioned - and as you say, it's mostly the "stay-at-home" mom that gets into it. And tries to convince her "working" friends that the little party she's hosting is just a nice social event that provides a chance to socialize with someone other than business acquaintances. And of course, around here, wine and other fun stuff is served.

But from the exhaustive research I've done (mostly years of reading posts on Jazzfanz) it seems there's a big difference in that Utah seems to have a lot more that promote some sort of health or fitness benefits, or "get rich" schemes - - around here they are mostly clothing/jewelry/food/toy related and they don't really make any dubious claims of any sort. Well, Shaklee perhaps to a limited degree, and maybe some of the Mary Kay cosmetics...

I'm not sure I'll say this clearly or sensitively enough but I'd attribute the inordinately high number of MLM's to the fact that Utah is not just a state but a people. And if a Mormon's selling something, other Mormons listen and buy in with open arms. From a psychological perspective, it makes complete sense.

It also fits a few other mormon values, such as self-sufficiency. Also there is the "miracle quotient", meaning that obviously our prayers have been answered to provide us with a chance to get rich without the work, etc.

I'm absolutely positive Icy Hot/Ben Gay is the exact same thing as that Deep Blue stuff, except of course, 1/10th of the price.

Obviously a big chunk of essential oils and/or supplements are snake oils. That said, if you're smart and do a little research you can find things that work.

I have mild ADD and body chemistry issues that cause me to feel overly fatigued. This is a pretty brutal combination for productivity although I'm generally very high-functioning. I use supplemental products that include the chemical Beta-Methylphenetheylamine (yes, I had to look up the spelling) as a sort of self-medicating stimulant/adderall substitute. There's no real reason the same process couldn't work for muscle relaxers as long as you identify some medically active compound that is available in non-controlled substances.

For reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Β-Methylphenethylamine. And yes, this is semi-legal benzedrine.
