Exum Update

I don't recall any patience with Rubio. I remember pitchforks, burning torches, rails, tar, and feathers, but no patience, and that was just in October. But then he started playing better and the Ws started piling up and now no-one notices his miscues as much, even if they are (at times) just as bad.

Crowder has a body of work in Boston that gives him some credits. Overall he's been playing well, other than not being able to put the ball in the basket. I sense the patience is wearing thin due to his shooting woes, even if he is contributing in other ways.

Exum keeps showing bits and pieces of realizing the potential he was drafted for, then regresses, then shows something else, then regresses again. That's what makes him so frustrating. We're all hoping he comes back as Summer League Dante but worried he'll be Deer in the Headlights Dante. Homers will say the former, Haters will say the latter, but no-one knows.

Yep. I have been an Exum hater for the most part cause he has mostly sucked. He has some elite physical attributes though. Hopefully he becomes good at basketball so he can use them

Then why the love for Alec?

Feels like we are due for an Exum update. 2 weeks ago we were getting clips of him working out before games then nothing??? I mean, mid march is a week away...

I thought best case he'd be back for this Pacers game but apparently not. Maybe the Kings game in 10 days???

So turns out Larson is a closet Dante hater.

To bring up how he played his rookie year and pretend like he hasnt improved... Dante never played like this at all last year! He struggled to make open 3s and was dealing with the win-now scenario that had him on a tight leash.

I saw this. I wouldn't even say he is a closet Dante hater. He's been a pretty openly dismissive of Exum and very slow to give him any props. You can tell he has super low expectations of Dante. I remember last year he wrote that horrible article using terrible stats to try to show why Mack was playing instead of Dante at the beginning of the year. It was Lockesque in my opinion. I like a lot of what Andy does and he's certainly not required to like Exum but I don't think the way he's presented it has been very well done. I saw the rebuttal there to this tweet and he didn't respond with where he was pulling the observation from. I'm pretty sure that data doesn't exist so it's basically an observation that I think was pretty inaccurate, and presented as some kind of metric. If Andy reads this and actually has the info for that I'm happy to be educated.

The nice thing is that Dante can change all this if he just comes back and plays well. I think at least DL really believes in him and there will be minutes for him with how uneven Burks, Neto (recently), and frankly even Rick still have been at times.

It might have been this thread or elsewhere but I heard he is now working on picks and getting heavy contact with pads etc. Maybe after this road trip we'll have a solid date for his return.

After this road trip there will be only 15 games left in the season. If he isn't ready to play within the next 2 weeks, then I see no point in bringing him back this season. The Jazz are better served keeping him off other teams radar for the summer signings, rather than playing through his rotation/chemistry disruptions just so he can show enough "potential" for some GM to give him a big offer. (As I think on this, I can't picture DL doing that to a player. Ah, well.)

I guess it is possible he will immediately pick up where he left off in summer league -- and great if he does -- but I don't think that is likely.

I agree. And regarding Exum's ability, we saw him play quite well vs. Golden State in the playoffs and then he looked even more confident /aggressive in summer league. Exum needs time to come back but I think he is going to become much better than the naysayers think. Hell, at only the level he was at in summer league he'd be fantastic for us.

So theirs some concern of rotation /chemistry issues with Exum who has been a Jazz player for 4 years,(Practice,SL and reg season and playoffs)but Crowder can come in play 7 games and NO PROBLEMS with chemistry/rotation issues EVEN though he still can't shoot as has been the case all year for Crowder. ...SMH and LOL..Right

I just want him to play like he did in preseason. He wasn't starting, but he was playing within himself and being aggressive. He can slide right in to that backup 1/2 role for the rest of the season and likely helps as he is a much better defender than Burks or Neto. We'll have to see offensively. I can see your point with the contract issues, but I'd rather have some more data on whether or not he's likely to turn a corner. I don't think he could do much outside of dominating and helping to lead a deep playoff run that would make other teams pay big money for him this year. So probably not a huge risk, in my opinion.

Exum wasn’t given the leash Ricky has and I think he will get it the last part of the season. DL needs to see it and if Quin isn’t sold he needs DL to see it.

Even though he is coming off the injury he needs to show the markings of some improvement in real nba games and not just one good stint in a playoff game or beating up on SL competition.

I just want him to stop being an enigma and either bust or become a success.
